Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of V-MODA Vibe In-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphone (Gunmetal Black)Customer Review: Look No Further! Summary: 5 Stars
I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile, but like most people I cannot afford the uber-expensive, top-of-the-line in-ear headphones. Unfortunately, I also put my headphones through a lot of unintentional abuse in the course of active use, which means that even the high-priced headphones I have purchased in the past have been destroyed. After reading quite a few positive reviews about these headphones, I decided to give them a go. And let me tell you, I couldn't be happier with them! The sound quality is exceptional, especially for the price! I swear I'm hearing things in my music that I've never noticed before. The bass is crisp, strong, deep, and clean; the mids are balanced and, unlike most headphones I've had in the past, are quite noticeable; and the highs don't have that tinny "tweetery" sound that I so abhor. There is no gap between the lows and highs like most other in-ears, these have a full range of sound with a bright, yet deep and full "atmosphere". They are extremely comfortable and fit like a glove in my ears, and I usually have a difficult time getting a good fit, having to go through several of the silicone sleeves to get a snug seal, and usually not the same size on both sides. These fit beautifully right out of the box! Also, the cord on these is quite sturdy and flexible, and they have fixed the old design flaw in the jack that allowed for fraying. As rough as I am with these, they show no signs of wear and tear, either visibly or in sound quality. Not to mention they really look great! They fit perfectly in my ear canal, so much so that they are barely visible. None of that alien probe antennae looking nonsense sticking out of your ears! Even if I break these guys, I WILL be returning for another pair! These have got to be the best pair of in-ears I've bought in years. I highly recommend that you save yourself a lot of grief trying out other products, and purchase yourself a pair of these sweet babies. You won't be disappointed!
Customer Review: Sloppy bass, horrible durability Summary: 2 Stars
All that really matters is that they break. Soon. After 3 months, something in the plug end became loose and I'd have to fiddle with it to get both channels to play. After 5 months it seemed like I was listening with my head in a tin bathtub while in a basement while the band played the venue upstairs. I'm all for benefit of the doubt and chalking it up to getting a bad pair, but you can see there are scores of bad reviews that are primarily based on the durability issue. It's not promising.
Even if they didn't fall apart, I'd say they're merely adequate for the updated $50 price on the black ones. At the $80 I paid, not worth it. The bass, while certainly bigger than most IEMs, reminds me of that kid in high school who had the subwoofer filled trunk that put out plenty of loud bass vomit but wasn't appealing to listen to actual music at all. And considering 90% of my musical taste is dance and hip hop, I wasn't exactly looking for Punchy and Tight when I bought the Vibes. Mids are washed out and highs are not really at all crisp. So even on tracks the bass works well with, the rest of the package is strictly average. Forget most rock and anything lighter in nature. But I don't think that's a knock - they're made for bass heavy stuff, clearly. If you do have these already and are getting REALLY sloppy bass, note that you must get them pretty well lodged in the ear for it to be at all reasonable. Otherwise it's a mess.
My guess is that most fans of these are buying them as their first pair of non-ipod headphones. Then these might sound big and impressive...but only by comparison to the tinny little white earbuds. Or they haven't owned them for more than a few months. Either way, stay away unless you don't care about replacing things when they break or you ARE that kid with 2 underpowered Pyramid 12s in a bandpass in your trunk and you got a new Zune for your birthday.
Customer Review: Careful, some of the bad reviews are correct. Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this exact model based on the tremendous amount of decent reviews that everyone has given it. If you research headphones, many .org, .com and even cnet.com rates the V-Moda products as a very good 'bang for the buck' stuff. But many of the negative reviews are accurate. Durability is not a key feature, therefore reliability is not as well which leads me to think they are cheaply made. Purchased these in March 19, 2009 and they broke in mid July (just short of 4 mos). I believe it was related to the cheap cabling as the headphones began to cut out in sound simultaneously in one ear or the other, sometimes both. If it wasn't cutting out, it was heavily distorted in both ears. I'm meticulous about my stuff, and to encounter these problems suddenly lead me to write this review to inform potential buyers. However I gave it three stars still because I emailed V-Moda for warranty replacement/repair. They immediately responded. I shipped them off at my own expense (only cost 3-4 bucks)and they told me they were going to replace it. Now in the process of returning to me. Above par customer service. Summary::
Pros:
-Customer service is very good.
-Base quality is not exaggerated; crisp and clean. Puts the factory Apple headphones to shame.
-Treble is not drowned by the bass--I set my Apple eq to 'treble boost' + headphones good bass = Excellent sound for the bucks.
-comfort may take some getting use to. I sometimes sleep to my iPod MB533LL/A and comfort takes some negotiating with these.
Cons:
-Well, they broke... within only four months too.
-I agree that the cabling can be construed as cheaply made.
-provided protective case blows. I keep it in my Bose in ear Headphone's case.
-uhh, I'm stretching it here now...
Note: look for amazon.com promo codes. Paid $46 for mine 8D. GL GD.
Customer Review: "OK" at the discounted price ($20); Would NEVER pay full price for these ($75+!) Summary: 4 Stars
I am just an average guy, wont pretend to be an expert, so I will call these like I see them. Got these discounted for around $20 bucks. I would have to say that I am pretty happy with the purchase. Dont get me wrong... these are not completetly horrible; they sound pretty good, are very light and comfortable (can hardly tell they are on), and are small enough that you can lay on your side without them becoming a problem. But in order to get a really good sound (such as the big bass they are advertised with), you have to shove these things in your canals pretty far, and by then they are so far in that every little move of the cord can be heard (dont even try chewing something!!!). Let me just go ahead and bullet-list the pros and cons with these:
PROs
-Small, lightweight
-EXTREMELY comfortable
-Strong metal build
-Cord feels sturdy and secure
-Sound decent (but I did have to turn the source up a little higher, which takes a star off the rating)
-Good accessories (6 different size/color tips)
CONs
-Not really worth the price tag; even at the discounted $20 price I have heard same or better quality cheaper
-Pretty much have to pierce your brain to get the advertised GREAT sound and bass
-The only "noise isolating" is due to how far you have to push these things in
-Says they can be used at the gym; NO WAY... you can hear every move of the cord
-Short cord (but it says this in the ad so no star removed because of this)
Overall, I guess I would recommend these as long as you look for the best price possible! I would not recommend going over $15 or $20 or you may feel let down. I wish I could give 3.5 stars, but since I cant, I will be nice and round up.
Customer Review: These earbuds freaking rock. Summary: 5 Stars
These earbuds freakin' rock. ROCK. R O C K.
Bass response is good. Nice, crisp, clear highs. Great midrange. Fits in my ear well. Blocks the sound of a military C-130. If you've ever ridden in the belly of one of those, you'll know, you need earpulgs or go deaf. Now, you can do it with a set of these babies and all I could hear was Mp3's. Sweet, sweet MP3's.
This is my second pair. My first pair fell out of my pccket and got caught in a door as I was leaving the gym, and it ripped the earbud off the wire. This is actually a lot better version. The first ones had a rubber covering on the wire, which was weak and tended to break in places. I'd end up dropping a dab of super glue on the wire to protect the wires inside the wire casing.
However, these are covered with a sort of "hardened cloth mesh" which makes the wire (slightly) stiffer and more able to take a beating. Since I work out, these take a beating. And oh, what a difference a good set of pounding earbuds makes when your pounding some steel.
When I got my new Nano, I immediately threw those earbuds in a drawer as a backup and slapped my V-Moda's on. I'm not an "Audiophile" but I do know what sucks and what is uncomfortable in my ear and these things sound FREAKING AWESOME and they fit so well in your ear, you don't even notice you're wearing them.
The earbud rubber pieces do tend to go "bad", (get crummy, hey, some people have earwax) after about 6 months. Whaddya know, you can order more earbud fittings at the V-moda store. I've done it and the service is fast and the price is right. Amazon used to sell 'em, but the last time I checked, they didn't stock them any more.
[...]
I highly recommend these earbuds.
