Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of V-MODA Vibe Duo In-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphone with Universal One-Button Mic (Nero)Customer Review: Good earbud, but maybe more fashionable than functional. Summary: 4 Stars
I got these as a gift, so I can't really factor in the value, but I do like them for the most part.
What I like:
The noise isolating style earbud with silicone ear pieces work well. They sound good (sorry, no audiophile here). Work with my iPhone. Build quality seems good.
What I don't like:
The knurling on the earpieces... it tends to rub on my ear and irritate along with lip on the back of the earpiece. Was there a function for it?? I think I'd be able to grip them just fine without. Also, the weight of the earpiece (being mostly aluminum) tends to make them prone to falling out (and the next bigger earpiece is too big for my ear).
I have another earbud that uses the same style of noise isolation, the Creative EP-630. I actually like that one a little better (with it's own caveats) because it mostly gets rid of the things I don't like above, but it also does not have the iPhone functions either. I don't use those very often anyway. They're also about half the price of these.
Overall, I like these earbuds. I do think they focused a little too much on fashion over function, but not enough to dissuade me from using them. If you want a good headphone that works with your iPhone, these aren't a bad choice in my opinion. Since I got these as a gift, I can't really say if there are any better choices, though. So, it may be worth shopping around if you're not dead set on these.
Customer Review: Even the click sounds great! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using these for about two months and I like them more each day. They are built to last. The cords have a fabric outer lining. The buds themselves have a serious metal ring to protect them and the sound diaphragms have metal micro screens also for protection. And they come with a small carrying case. My Apple earbuds worked fine but they wore out after 6 months. I expect these to last much longer.
They are not "sound canceling". You jam them into your ear and they block outside sound, just like closing a window blocks street noise. They come with three sizes of soft inserts to fit your ear. This isn't elegant but it works. But do these sound better?
My iPhone makes a click sound when I turn the screen off. With the Apple earbuds this is just a click. With the V-MODA earbuds, this click is a symphony of sound. I actually marvel when I hear this click. And the microphone is equally excellent. I called my Mom, 3,000 miles away, while I was walking on the street and she thought I was in my living room on a regular wired phone.
On the Apple earbuds you can stop listening by squeezing the microphone. On the V-MODA earbuds you have to find the button on the microphone to silence them. This is less convenient, so there's some room for improvement. But even though these cost 3 times as much as Apple's version, if I lose these, I'll buy them again.
Customer Review: They work AWESOME, even in a Jeep Wrangler! Summary: 2 Stars
I use these headphones for both my iPod and BlackBerry Curve and have been incredibly happy with them. I've used them daily for the last 6 months and haven't experienced any of the problems that I've seen in other reviews. The 2 key features about these headphones that I love are:
1. The microphone is in-line on the wire about 6 inches down from one of the earbuds. This is a great feature because it makes it very easy for folks to hear you speak. No shouting required.
2. The earbuds do a great job of "canceling" out noise. In fact, they do such a good job that I can actually use them while driving my soft-top Jeep Wrangler at 65MPH. In case you couldn't figure it out, this is an incredibly noisy environment so the fact I can carry on a conversation and not have people asking me if I'm in a wind tunnel really says something. This is the only ear-piece device I've EVER had that actually allows me to hear in that kind of environment. I was seriously considering buying a hardtop until I got these headphones.
EDIT 27AUG2010
-After two sets of these earbuds I've come to the conclusion that these things SUCK. One of your earbuds will eventually stop working at about the 9 month point. For a set of earbuds that cost over $100, this should NOT happen and I would NOT recommend these to anyone.
Customer Review: Me too, reasonable quality but right channel DIED AFTER 3 WEEKS Summary: 2 Stars
I agree partially with the other reviews on audio. Have previously owned shure e2c, e3c, sennheiser cx300, px100, rx130, so reasonable experience with mid - high end headphones.
I bought these on accout of apple's frankly scandalous decision to regress the jack on the iphone, and because these have a microphone attacched.
They definitely suffer somewhat in sound clarity vs the shures but have more bass, although this does feel a bit boosted and not particularly clean. I guess it comes down to preference though
I'd rate these similar to the cx300s for quality, which are a fair bit cheaper but dont have the mike, so its a no brainer to buy the v-modas on a functionality basis.
HOWEVER, my headphones lasted barely 3 weeks. I'm pretty rough on headphones, and I've got through multiple pairs of shures before, but they at least lasted 3-6 months at a minimum. This durability is just unacceptable. I am returning for exchange, but this is a hassle i really dont need. I just cant recommend these phones on this basis
Also, another review mentions a rubbing noise and he is correct. If you use the clip provided this is reduced but is still annoying.
Overall then:
functionality: 9/10
sound: 8/10
durability: 1/10
overall: 4/10
enjoy!!!
Customer Review: You've got to be kidding me. Summary: 1 Stars
Let's start this off by saying I use my iPhone for these earbuds, and with that being said, my music is a critical part of my work day. On the commute there and back, and sometimes during work (though I use a much larger set of stereo headphones).
I enjoyed these earbuds for a while, especially after being recommended it by an Apple "Genius". Yea. Genius all right. The ear buds sound terrific for about a month. And then the right ear piece goes dead. I cheated it by twisting the cord around and around and sometimes the sound would fade in and out, but I dealt with it.
A week later and the right ear piece is completely dead. They aren't even wearable any more because it even sends little shocks through my ear. Shocks. I mean literally, static/electric shocks. Through my ear. I'm completely furious with my purchase. And it's a bit interesting because I can still use the mic to operate the iphone for incoming calls. The click still works. But sound doesn't. Seems a bit fishy and curious to me.
After reading A LOT of similar reviews, I am kicking myself for not having done my proper research and instead listening to an in store salesman. Furthermore, I feel taken advantage of as V Modo has taken part in the Great American Hustle.
Avoid these headphones at all costs.
