Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of V-MODA Vibe Duo In-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphone with Universal One-Button Mic (Nero)

Customer Review: I have a love/hate relationship with these
Summary: 3 Stars

LOVE the sound quality of calls on these buds

HATE the sound quality of music on these buds - anemic and lifeless on any EQ setting...or no EQ setting, for that matter. Don't believe the hype. Use "Treble Boost" to make the best of a bad situation.

LOVE the cloth cord - light and easy to wind

HATE how the plastic microphone bangs on my chest like a stethoscope whenever i walk, with or without the clip in use.

LOVE the various included earbud sizes

HATE that none of them fit well enough to significantly block out sound, unlike all of the other earbuds i've used (even the cheap ones).

LOVE the included pouch

HATE that i had to see an audiologist because the sound quality is so poor that i had to crank them to hear the details, giving me short-term tinnitus. No joke. But i still love the pouch.

LOVE the idea of earbuds with a call button and microphone.

HATE that the call button is so small and hard to find that I end up missing calls.

LOVE that the iPhone accepts the Vibe Duo Nero headphone jack size.

HATE that it doesn't accept most others. WTF?

LOVE these buds for convenience's sake alone - so handy to be able to play music and send/receive calls.

HATE that my $20 Sony buds blow these away music-wise.

UPDATE: dock another star -- HATE that one of the buds shorted out after 3 months of use. But add another half star - LOVE that VModa shipped me a brand new pair within a week, free of charge.

Customer Review: 1st time failed - 2nd time perfect (2nd time failed 10/08) - Failed a 3rd & 4th time
Summary: 1 Stars

Second Review:
Update 10/15/2008 - after receiving my first replacement set in 8/2008 on October 6, 2008 the left channel failed. V-Moda is sending a new pair but I must say I'm disappointed that I have had to pay for each shipment to V-Moda at a total cost of about 7.50 X 2. I have spent nearly 15% of the cost of the unit returning them for replacements, not including my time & gas going to UPS. I must agree with several others here that when they work, they're wonderful. If the next unit fails I will push V-Moda for a refund. The two sets I've had seem to last 60 days or so then go out. If I could re-rate these I would give them 2 stars because of the problems.

First Review:
I bought these for my my wife in June 2008 for her IPhone. They worked fine for about 60 days and then the sound became distorted. Songs sounded as if they where in a echo chamber.
Sent the unit back to V-Moda and they sent back a new V-Moda Duo with one slight change, there was a upgrade to the male jack that attaches to the Iphone. Much sturdier "Y" shaped jack that helps you to resist the temptation to pull the cord (instead of the jack) when you disconnect the from your unit.
Sound is wonderful. If this unit fails I will update, but I believe these are a keeper.

Third and final review:
I'm done with this product and V-Moda. They will not refund your money. They know the product is defective and fails like clockwork (about every 45-60 days). Don't waste your time, effort, and money as I have done.

Customer Review: These rock pretty hard
Summary: 4 Stars

After some trouble receiving these (owing to my own inability to correctly type my zip code) I finally got to plug them in and can say that they are everything the factory ear buds for my iPhone are not. Comfortable, well-designed, sturdy, and the sound quality is good.

Upon opening the package, the first thing I noticed was how heavy they were. They are substantial which, to me, makes them seem well made. I don't particularly worry about damaging them by shoving them in my pocket or dropping them, and I imagine they would survive being stepped on. The weight of the microphone will pull the right earpiece out if you don't clip the wire to your shirt with the accompanying plastic alligator clip. I notice this while walking. Not so much just sitting around.

They feel nice in the ear. Sound isolation is reasonable, I suppose. I am kind of against total isolation since I want to be able to use them for phone calls while driving and like being able to hear a car horn if someone honks. These fit the bill.

Sound quality is very nice. However, that is not to say they are accurate. There is a distinct boost in the low end, easily corrected by the EQ settings in my iPhone.

I can wear these for hours and all my music sounds good. The fabric covering the wires minimizes tangle. They were expensive, but I think worth it.

I have had them for 2 weeks and used them approximately 60 hours, since I get a lot of headphone time at my job.

Customer Review: POOR CONNECTOR QUALITY
Summary: 2 Stars

I give them two stars now because I am on my second set with this manufacturer, and this set has failed in exactly the same way. They sound truly wonderful until a channel fails at the connector. Their "high tech" soft rubber or cloth covered cables (I have had both types) are very prone to failure at stress points, which this manufacturer provides aplenty--especially where the cable emerges from the connector. The "stress relief" feature in this case is a hard rubber piece, only about 4 or 5 mm long, that can't be deflected appreciably unless you press very hard against it. You wouldn't dare try this by pulling the cable to the side. The "stress relief" stands firm and the cable is bent over sharply. A good stress reliever should limit the radius of the emerging cable by getting gradually stiffer as you approach the connector. That's why stress relievers on cables are usually tapered over their length, and/or have other features to make them more flexible with distance from the connector. This is especially important with very fragile cables such as these. V-Moda utterly fails here.

I understand that style is important to this company, but I'm sure that if they had put a little thought into it, they could have produced a quality product at the same price that would last at least as long as a pair of seven-dollar Sony earphones. I guess it's time to go to Radio Shack, find some fat, clunky connector (with a stress reliever!) and solder all those the teeny wires to it. Wish me luck!

Customer Review: Make your iPhone sing!!
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, they are pricey. $99 for a pair of earbuds. Granted, they are extremely stylish, with the chrome accents, and fabric cords, and the nifty little case, but $99 is a lotta cash for a pair of iPod/iPhone earbuds. Good thing they sound terrific. Very deep punchy bass, though some people may not like them as much if they're not bass freaks. Highs are pretty good, and anyone will agree they sound better than the slightly better than average pack in iPhone earbuds. They look greta, they sound great. These models have the long awaited call button/skip track feature on the cord, which the first models did not have. It works well, people sound great and I never had anyone say they couldn't hear me even when in a crowded store.

The silicone fittings come in three sizes and two colors, so you get extras to fit your ear size. They are very snug and isolate sound similar to a pair of earplugs, blocking out some noise. Though these aren't noise cancelling, they do suppress a lot of noise. Excellent in that respect.

Bottom line: Worth it? For me, yes...the braided fabric wire means less tangles, and the sound isolation and comfort are tops. The call button mimics the original pack ins, and allows the same functions. And the sound is great. I say go for it, if you're looking for a better pack in for the iPhone. iPod users have cheaper alternatives without the call button feature but there really aren't many options for iPhone users, at least not yet.
