Customer Review: V-Moda BF's...oddly shaped, but comfortable, and doesn't suck out your eardrum...

I'm always looking for good inexpensive earphones, so when the V-Moda Bass Frequency earphones were available as a Lightning Deal for eight bucks, I took a chance, even though I had never heard of the brand before. So far, I have found them to be very comfortable, and easy to wear for long periods of time.
The earphones come with three sets of clear silicone ear inserts. The inserts are thicker than most, which means that they are not as flexible and soft. This is a good thing, as they easily seat in the ear canal, with a nice comfortable seal that blocks out ambient sounds nicely, without forming a vacuum seal. Removing the earbud is usually painless, with no feeling that your eardrum is being sucked out. Being thicker, I assume that these inserts will last longer than the thinner ones that are found on some Skullcandy or Sony earphones.
The speaker is about 1/8 inch in diameter, and as advertised, seems to do a good job of producing sounds in the midrange and low end. For my tastes, this is fine for music, and even better for listening to the spoken word, such as talk radio, podcasts, or audio books.
I prefer an L shaped audio jack, but these earphones have a standard straight pin. The rubber insulation on a many earphone cords, often gets hard and brittle, or sticky with age. I hope that won't happen with these. The earphones are unusually shaped, and have a hard plastic "handle" that makes them easy to insert and remove. The handle probably provides some strain relief for the cord, which may help prevent the cable connection from failing. The assembly is mostly plastic, keeping the weight minimal.
If the slightly odd look isn't a problem, you may want to give these a try. Available in a variety of colors, I liked these earphones enough to get another set on sale for about $10. Since the price varies by color, and there are frequent price drops, you may want to wait a bit, rather than pay twenty dollars or more for a set.
