Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of V-MODA Bass Freq In-Ear Stereo Headphone (Bling Bling Black)

Customer Review: Good sound - even fits well for small ears
Summary: 4 Stars

Well it has been a few days since I have received these earbuds.
The Good:
1) Sounds good - bass seems to be good and the overall tone is fair too. However, they still do not surpass the sound quality of the Sony MDR-EX71s.
2) Fit is good for small ears, but not perfect. Even though they supply three different cushions, the middle size still did not fit as well as the MDR-EX71s. So I swapped out the V-Moda's for the Sonys and they fit better...but the sound quality changed...It was interesting to note that the sound had a more bass and slightly muffled...so I kept the V-Moda's cushions on.
3) The wiring quality looks a little tougher than the SONYs, but we will have to wait and see how they hold up...as I noted in my SONY review on the MDR-EX71, the quality of the wiring jacket sucks and the reason for the change of manufacturer.
4) Length of cord is good - but a little too long for my tastes. Good to have a cord wrap to tighten up the loose wiring.

The Bad:
1) Sound quality not as good as the SONY MDR-EX71.
2) The LHD and RHD identification on the buds are TOO SMALL!!!! I have to look really hard to see which side to put into my ears...why not have physical indents so all we have to do is to touch and know which ear bud to insert into the proper ear canal.

The Summary:
Not too bad of a first impression.
I just hope that the durability of the V-MODA out lasts my SONYs - it will be a wait and see. I would recommend these to someone that is looking for something different than iPods or SONYs ear buds. But with V-MODA, they need to still work on the sound quality.

Customer Review: definitely bassy
Summary: 4 Stars

I paid about $36 for these
pros's
-definitely have bass
-good sound if you place them right

Con's:
-sound changes dramatically depending on how you put them in your ears

These earbuds come with 3 different sizes of silicone plugs to make sure they will fit in a wide variety of ear shapes and sizes. Each one of the silicone plugs is very squishy and perfectly round rather than some elongated ear-shape. When I placed these earbuds in, the first thing I noticed was that they completely seal against your ears and act like earplugs. Even with no music being played, I could barely hear any sound around me. As soon as I began playing music, all ability to hear ambient sounds completely goes away. This could be a good thing when you want to drown out all sounds around you such as on an airplane. If you push the earbuds in, the sound changes a lot from hollow sounding, to underwatery-sounding, and they must be adjusted in the ear for the correct sound to be heard. These earbuds rely on an airtight seal against your ear for the bass tones to be heard. As soon as the seal is broken, the bass dies completely. I like bass, but over the course of time, I wonder if these have too much bass. I like to listen to books on CD and such and for that, the added bass can get a little tiresome. For bass fanatics, these are great, they definitely add to any musical experience and I'm glad I got them but I think I'll keep my regular one handy for those time when I want to be able to hear people calling me or when I don't want the extra bass.

Summary: Definitely worth the 36 bucks, though not above improvement

Customer Review: Average Quality and Sound
Summary: 3 Stars

I had been using clip-on headphones for months because my iPod earphones were just too big. Frustrated with the lack of sound isolation and quality, I decided to look for a pair of earbuds. I spent weeks trying to find a pair that consistently received good reviews. However, that magic pair just wasn't to be found for under $100. I decided to go with a cheaper pair in the $30 price range. If they turned out to be subpar, at least I didn't waste a lot of money on them.

I choose the V-Moda Bass Freq headphones primarily because of their 2006 CNET Editor's Choice Award. CNET is known to be a reliable source. I bought them for $29.99 from TigerDirect.

Pros:
--Decent sound isolation for not actually using noise-cancellation technology
--Excellent bass
--Well-designed. Their casing is even smaller than the iPod earphones and the chord seems sturdy

Cons:
--I found the small-seized silicone covers to still be a bit big
--They do not register quieter sounds very well. For example, I was listening to "We Are the Champions" and the verses kept fading in and out.
--Difficult to find a good EQ setting. I am still working with my iPod to find a good mix given the natural bass focus of the earbuds
--There was background buzzing when I plugged them into my laptop. I am not entirely sure this is a problem with the buds themselves, but it was certainly annoying

I am going to use my V-Moda Bass Freq headphones daily. However, if I hadn't been able to use a $25 gift card toward their purchase, I would be frustrated that I spent $30 on a product with so many cons.

Customer Review: INCREDIBLE EARBUDS FOR ANY PORTABLE PLAYER (INCLUDING IPHONE)
Summary: 5 Stars

I just bought these earphones from amazon, basically because y read many good things about them.
I know rewievs are subjective and in this case they depend on music taste and music knowledge, but in this case, they were surprisingly accurate with what I experienced when I first tried this earbuds.
I paid 29,99 for these, so I wasnt expecting TOO MUCH... I was wrong.
They sound AWESOME!!
I am using them now with my Iphone, and i couldnt be happier.
The sound is big. And when I say big... I mean BIG! A little too much bass, but thats easy to fix, setting the iphones eq in "bass reducer" or "treble booster" mode The sound is not balanced, so you have to compensate the treble. I must say I love listening to a nice punchy groove, but this lows are incredible loud and accurate, so i decided to turn them a little bit down.
Noise isolation is also very good. Working out in the gym, I realized I was standing right in front of a large speaker, and i wondered if it was turned off, because i couldnt hear anything...so I came closer... and nothing, until I decided to take off one of my earbuds, and I couldnt believe it was actually sounding pretty loud! With my earbuds and some music in it, i couldnt hear a large speaker 5 inches from my ear!!

The most important thing for me is that they fit in the Iphone. Its not a perfect fit, I must say. You have to press it a little bit hard to get it in, but once in... you will experience a much much MUCH better sound experience than with the crappy Iphone earphones.

Thank god I followed my instincts and bought this incredible earphones.

Customer Review: Earbuds are a Dangerous Game
Summary: 2 Stars

My 2 stars are for the aesthetics and versatility of this product, respectively. They definitiely appeal to a broad range of people, and its a great idea to include three different sizes for all ear canals.

BUT...

These are badly designed. Any earbud with such a narrow speaker is an open invitation for permanent hearing loss. I tried the small and medium sizes first and while the medium fit very snuggly, it felt WAY too deep. With the large, i couldn't get a good seal and subsequently wound up with poor bass quality. We were told for years to take caution when cleaning our ears with q-tips - all of a sudden, we throw that advise out the window in the name of convenience. Over the head or around the neck headphones are certainly cumbersome, but at least you know what you're getting. Too many earbuds are manufactured without accounting for people's poor judgement. Push em too far in to get a better seal and you wind up listening to dead silence for the next 50 years.

These are also supposed to provide great bass and I was not impressed. When it comes to headphones, solid bass comes from a solid seal. Earmuff headphones are the best in the biz there. Any earbud trying to accomplish the same type of bass is going to warrant shoving them as far as possible into your ear.

FYI, Sony offers more affordable earbuds with better audio quality and a safer design. Sony MDR-E828LP Fontopia Earbuds with Winding Case I've had em for a year and they've never failed.
