Customer Review: You'll never go back to $10 earbuds

I bought these earbuds for $15 with free shipping during a sale, and in the past have mostly used earbuds and over the ear headphones in the $10-$25 price range and have gone through several different brands and models.
They really do have a pretty good sound quality for earbuds, but you have some work to do before you can get the most out of them.
At first I had to mess around a lot with the different sized fittings and how I positioned them in my ears but I eventually found a way to wear them using the medium fittings that was both comfortable and provided an optimal seal. I could get a good seal with any of the sizes but the others were a bit uncomfortable.
The next thing I did was mess around with my equalizer settings. With all of my previous headphones it never really seemed to make a significant improvement overall when I did anything with equalizers but with these it really made a big deal. My sound card drivers have a lot of complicated settings and I also messed around with things besides the equalizer but if you don't have that option or just don't want to bother, you can just go into itunes/winamp/your mp3 player settings/whatever and play with the equalizers there.
Pros:
- Better sound quality than anything else I've tried.
- You can actually hear the bass frequencies.
- 3 different sized fittings for a customizable fit, they are very easy to swap but don't seem like they would ever fall off accidentally.
- Build quality seems good.
Cons:
- It is now more noticeable to me when I am listening to a low quality source or using lower quality headphones.
- You have to fit them snugly to form a seal.
- I had to tweak my audio driver settings on my laptop and the equalizer on my mp3 player to get the most out of them.
If you're an audiophile, you'll probably want to go with something nicer (and more expensive), but I'm just an average guy that wanted some nice earbuds at an affordable price for when I listen to music and play video games and that's exactly what I got.

For under $50, you can't get better earbuds. Obviously, the bass is excellent, and it's really thumpy if you have a bass-heavy song. The only downside is if you have the bass set at a high level in your equalizer, it somewhat drowns out the highs, but if you turn it down a little, or turn up the mids and the high in the EQ it's great. I highly recommend these earbuds if you're looking for something wayyyy better than those crappy headphones that came with your iPod =)
If you're a audiophile, and I mean really , you probably won't want these. They sound amazingly good, but if you're that picky, you'll probably want something that plays music a little more precise and accurate, like the really expensive Shures, or v-moda VibeIIs.
Just a thought: the cord isn't very long, about 5' which is fine, if you're listening to your mp3 player, but if you plan to use these on your computer, for instance, you would probably want to get a cheap extension if your computer is far away. (I it when you plug it in your computer and you have to bend your neck in a weird angle just so you can have BOTH earbuds in.)

This is weird... one day I noticed that the left wire is a little longer than the right one. It wasn't like that new, and I didn't pull at it. huh. I guess it doesn't matter, the gauge of the wire isn't extremely heavy. it gets the job done, though.

I've had these headphones for quite a while now and I can still say I love these. For less than thirty dollars, you cannot get a better pair of headphones. The bass is simply amazing, and with right equalization, you can get pretty darn good treble response, as well if you want. (I don't like the bass too heavy, I want to be able to really hear the vocals as that's the best part of the song for me) The weird wire length thing doesn't really matter, I guess they were put together by hand, and it's a knot holding the wire from slipping so it totally makes sense. Still comfortable, and amazing sound performance.

I got an Ipod Touch for Christmas and the headphones that came with it are crappy.
I started a long search for good sounding headphones at a reasonable price. I was willing to spend up to $[...]. I wanted in ear headphones that would stay in because I go mountain biking and the Ipod original headphones kept of falling out. I can't use my over the ear, over the head earphone, because I wear a helmet on these rides.
I looked at V-moda Vibe, Bose TriPort, Bang & Olufsen A8, Shure SE110, JBL Reference 220, Sennheiser CX300, and a few other ones. Pretty much all of the above mentioned headphones had good as well as bad reviews. I mainly focused on the bad reviews to see the flaws and see if that would turn me off.
I somehow stumbled upon these V-Moda Bass Freq. At first I was reluctant on getting them. I though ohh it's just another pair of cheap headphones. I read all the 1 star reviews, and then some good reviews. Then I found out that these were [...] editor's choice in october 2006. Read some more reviews, and decided I'll give them a try.
I got the black ones to match my ipod. I read a lot of reviewers complaining about the packaging and back part of the headphones coming/braking off when taking them out. I was careful about it and everything was fine. Then for about 5 minutes I played around with the silicone inserts/plugs. Found the ones that fit and sounded the best, and have been using them ever since. I love these headphones, and I recommend them to everybody I know.
These headphones haven't fallen out of my ear on my bike rides yet, and I don't think they will. The bass is good, and the highs are pretty crisp and clear.
I listen to Hip-Hop, Drum and Bass, House, and all sorts of Electronic, Music. And it all sounds good with these. Plus for $[...] it's a great deal. When my pair wears out, I'll most likely just order another one.

you really like bass, muffled mids, irritating highs. I was looking for a cheap alternative to the horrible standard iPod headphones, since they have no bass at all. I work retail and these were the cheapest on employee purchase ($10) so I decided to pick them up. First thing you notice when you put them on is "wow, that's a lot of bass for something so cheap." Then, after a couple songs, you start to notice how muffled the mids are. I would describe the vocals like this: say your underwater (in a pool) barely below the surface of the water, and someone is singing a couple feet from the water. That's the best way I can describe it. With that said, I rarely listen to music with vocals.
The highs on high volumes can get irritating, if you can even hear them. Even the highs sound like they have some bass in them. I tried listening to rock/metal/alternative and it was just annoying. You can't distinguish any of the mids from the highs.
The bass is obviously overpowered, which is expected hence the name of them. I'm O.K. with overpowered bass only if they don't mess with the mids. But they do.
Build quality is what you would expect. The buds feel like they can take a couple drops. The cable feels a little flimsy.
I haven't been able to use the cable management thing as of yet, don't really see why you would waste time winding that thing up when you can just wrap it around your mp3 player.
So that's the bad. But the good is that they are a pretty cheap alternative for iPod headphones, if you listen to bass heavy music and don't really care for any of the other frequencies, these are for you. I can't really complain for $10 bucks. There are probably better earbuds in the same price range, just haven't tried most of them out.
Definitely NOT the "best earbuds" at this price range. Probably the most bass you will be able to get at this price range.
Customer Review: Almost the best $30.00 headset

This is my first pair of V-moda's. I have owned many pairs of headphones; they typically end in some sort of gruesome death. Thus the quest for the decent $30.00 headphones.
I would give these a 4.5, weighted on their cost, but they are probably a 4 in the class of sub $50.00 headphones. The sound is not really linear, really tuned for contemporary music, not classical. I listened to a bit of old jazz as well and they were decent, but perhaps a little too round in the low end. But it is too much perhaps to expect something truly linear for $30.00.
As the name would imply the headphones have pronounced, but acceptable, non-boomy bass. The way they accomplish this is clever. The headset does not actually go completely into the ear canal as some other models do. As a result, part of the ear becomes a resonant chamber. The long plastic piece where each headset wire comes out is there to keep someone from putting the headset too far in the ear.
So, despite the dumb name, and V-Moda's really silly web site, these are actually a decent pair of earphones. As with most transducers (including speakers), the sound of them will change over a period of time -- a day or two of heavy use should do it. The high end becomes a little less strident.
The headset themselves are made from lightweight, but fairly sturdy plastic. The headset wires are lightweight. They come with 3 different sized earpieces. Be sure to try all three out as these headphones fit differently than many other in-ear headphones.
You should probably be looking at the Sennheiser CX300 as well, which are more well regarded....but I think these are surprisingly good as well -- they have a different set of qualities -- the Bass Freq has very good detail in the midrange, which I wouldn't have expected - lots of little details pop out, including acoustic music. Happy so far.
