Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Uniden TRU9485-3 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Answering System with Dual Keypad and 2 Extra Handsets

Customer Review: A solid, functional product
Summary: 4 Stars

A good, functional product.
PROS:
- Intuitive
- Comes w/three handsets
- Nice belt-clip which does not fall off. Didn't like odd shape at first but makes it easier to cradle handset when talking.
- Different rings for each handset and different callers
- Can get voicemail from any handset or base station
- Good speakerphone quality from handsets & base station (and no complaints yet from people we have been talking w/)
- Can label each phone in display (to know which of the three you are talking on -- helps keep track)
- Weighty enough to give a quality feel but not too heavy.
CONS:
- "direct link mode" function btwn handsets is bizarre & most of the time the "out of range" error appears.
- "Room Monitor" is a great idea but (while i don't have a baby) i don't think it would be that useful as a baby monitor.
- No blue tooth or wifi capability
- "Phone book" is archaic and unwieldy. Why can I synch up my tiny cell phone with my computer, Outlook, or Gmail address books but not my house phone?? No predictive text / entering in phone numbers manually is monotonous and difficult (though admittedly easier than previous cordlesses i have owned).

Customer Review: It works, but my old phone got better reception
Summary: 2 Stars

I replaced my old 900 MHz phone with this system thinking I was getting a premium upgrade from a phone I purchased almost a decade ago for college and from what it looks like I'm not alone in this complaint. But then again others don't seem to have this problem so who knows. Maybe it's the building material in older homes or distortion from other electronics such as a computer, all I know is that when I go into rooms more than 30 ft. from the base I get horrible disruptions. I have the base unit in my family room and a handset in my office and it's bad enough where I have to leave my office and go somewhere more open to be able to understand who I'm talking to. My house is only 2,500 square feet. I guess I should have gone with V-Tech...

I also wish the intercom feature was a true intercom. What I mean is the person on the other side has to physically answer the intercom page, you can't just speak openly in the air to each other, what a pain, especially if your hands are full. Oh well, life goes on but I won't be buying another Uniden, sorry guys but not after what I paid.

Customer Review: Terrific Speaker Phone
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this phone for one reason - it has a fantastic speaker phone capability in terms of the sound quality hear on both ends of the phone. It is loud and clear.

Issues I have encountered:
1. Caller ID - Phone numbers appear in 10 digit format (XXX)-XXX-XXXX, however they can only be dialed with a 1 in front of the area code. Therefore storing a caller ID number is a pain because it doesn't automatically put the 1 in for you and there isn't a way to move your cursor to the begging of the number to add the 1. You must delete the entire number and then add the 1.

2. The phone book is not transmitted to all phones - it must be entered individually on each phone.

3. If someone from your address book calls - despite the fact that their name and phone number is already stored - the phone will not display their name.

4. The phone no longer comes with belt clips.

-- if anyone has a remedy to the issues I have described then please respond to my post and let us all know how to resolve them. Thanks

Customer Review: Great phone for PARENTS!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I searched long and hard for a cordless phone that would provide me with everything I needed. Thankfully, many of the existing reviews were very helpful. I've had this phone now for 6 months and there are many features I love, but the ones that I really appreciate are the ones that most parents will enjoy. There is a DO NOT DISTURB button that has been a life saver when I put my kids to sleep. It instantly turns off all phones with a push of the button. Secondly, the speaker phone is AMAZING! The sound quality is great and doesn't even sound as if you are on speaker. I have left the phone in my kitchen and walked 10 feet into the living room and was still able to have a very audible conversation. I use this feature a lot with kids since I can't constantly hold the phone. Lastly, I love that if I'm upstairs with the kids that I can check a message on the machine from any of the satellite phones. Very convenient if you can't be where the main base is.

I'm very pleased with this phone and would highly recommend it!

Customer Review: Great,, but is 5.8 GHz safe?
Summary: 4 Stars

Functionally this is a great phone. I put one accessory handset/base set in my mother's bedroom and use the room monitor function at night instaed of buying a separate baby monitor. It is easy to turn on at night.

Then I read at [...] not to use anything over 900 mhz because all the Gigaherz phone stay on continuously, bombarding you with radiation around the clock.

But 900 mgz are obsolete and not so easy to find. I ended up buying a corded phone with digital answering machine, phonebook etc. as a compromise. As far as the room monitoring, I asked, does it make sense to fry our brains trying to save our lives?

Obviously, this is a provocative question because the evidence is controversial. If you don't believe the evidence that the 24/7 radiation is harmful or must have a state of the art cordless phone, this one seems to be the best buy, based on my experience and word of mouth from a highly tech-savvy relative who--like most tech pro's dismisses the risks.
