Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Uniden TRU9485-3 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Answering System with Dual Keypad and 2 Extra Handsets

Customer Review: Piece of Junk- Returned After Putting Up with Poor Quality for 2 Years!
Summary: 1 Stars

I can't say enough about the poor quality of Uniden phones. I purchased these (but with the 4 phones and then purchased an additional 2 units) 2 years ago at one of the big box warehouses. I bought Uniden because of the glowing reviews in Consumer Reports and on the Amazon site. What a mistake!

From the very beginning, the phones' reception was poor. If you answered the phone before it had completed two full rings, the phone dropped the call. One unit was in our computer room; one could never answer a call on that phone. Another phone, including its base unit, was located in a room off the garage. That phone never rang the first time, and only sounded on the second ring. Because the answering unit picked up on the fourth ring, there were innumerable calls that ended up on the answering machine while someone was actually responding to the call.

Further, one extremely annoying feature was a continued beeping when there was a message. Unfortunately, you couldn't turn off the beeping - you had to listen to the message to stop it. I hated that because there are times one just doesn't have time to go through the new messages and would like to delay things. This system was designed to require you to listen or to go crazy...

Recently, the phones began cutting out during calls or simply dropping calls. At first, I thought it might be due to switching to phone service through our TV cable provider. However, the problem continued to worsen and having had enough, I dug out the sales receipt and took all the phones and base units back to the store where they were purchased. I can only say the customer service was first rate and my purchase price was refunded without question. I purchased a Panasonic set and am thrilled with it; plus, my cable provider was not the problem.

I would never recommend or purchase another Uniden product.

Customer Review: Best cordless in the business
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this for two weeks. Setup was a easy. Instruction book was correct and easy to understand. Charged all the units overnight and set up the base unit via menu selections. Customized each unit with phone books etc.

The sound is terrific. Clear as a bell. However, the individual unit "speaker phone" volume could be better (louder). Phone-to-ear volume is fine.

-Display is bright and easy to read
-Buttons are a good size and easy to control
-Belt clip is a little sloppy in that there is too much space between the clip and the unit itself, so it would not fit tight to thin pocket fabric . . .a pair of jeans or a belt would hold it secure though.
-Read through the manufacturers features, this thing is feature rich. The intercom is fine . . no more yelling from one part of the house to the other.
-The selling point for me was the digital signal between handsets and handset to base.

Range? . . .so far about 300' from the base in the kitchen to outside the house and down the street a bit. Wished for a little more. From the base to the farthest handset it's about 40' through two walls and a floor and the sound is fine.

Tough? You bet! Like a previous reviewer, I dropped one handset during the "get it out of the box and into the charger" phase, right smack onto a hardwood floor from about 4' up. No problem. Handset still works great.

We like it so much we just bought another handset (can add up to 10 units) Went through the "register handset" operation and it synched right up in about 5 seconds.

I did some price comparisons after the fact. You can save $9 if you buy the base with one handset, then two more additional handsets instead of buying the 9485-3

Highly, Highly recommend.

Customer Review: Good product. Fast service. Well packaged and left no physical blemishes of any sort.

On March 2, 2010, I purchased a Uniden TRU9485-3, a 5.8GHz cordless telephone and answering system from an Amazon company called Sales Masters. This order also shipped with dual keypads and two extra handsets--all of which worked up to the specifications given me by them (I can't say the same thing about a couple of recent computer systems I recently purchased elsewhere...oh well, Caveat emptor as they say;) Those at Sales Masters appear never to have studied Latin otherwise I could not praise them as being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. They demonstrated themselves as being of the timber necessary to becoming good Scouts--a breed whom (alas) has declined in numbers in recent years. In my day these were the kind of boys who would've bucked for Eagle Scout!

Perhaps most importantly, they actually shipped the units in a timely manner--and this alone was enough to make a permanent customer out of me. Do not hesitate to do business with the people behind Sales Masters. Although my experience with them did not require them to make some problem--whether real or imagined--*right* (getting the job done correctly the first time has this effect you know). I was left with the personal impression that they would have ameliorated any customer-related disquietude that can arise with little or no warning without a hitch--and do so without resorting to hurtful language.

I would have given them a 10-star rating if not constrained by the lower numbers currently assigned by Amazon...

Highly recommended--both for the excellent service they supply and the unquestionable quality of their merchandise! Two very large thumbs up!

Customer Review: PRODUCT AND SERVICE BOTH FAIL!
Summary: 1 Stars

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

I gave this one star since it was impossible to give it zero stars.

I purchased this phone system from Amazon and it worked as advertised for about two weeks. Then we had a power 'blip' where we lost power for less than one second; we didn't even have to reset the microwave clock. The base unit was plugged into a surge protector. The phone system spontaneously stopped working. Since the failure occurred within Amazon's 30 day replacement period, they sent a new phone system and we returned the defective system to Amazon.

About six weeks later the phone again spontaneously failed. Since this failure occurred outside the Amazon 30 day period the Amazon rep gave me the Uniden phone number and told me to call Uniden which I did. The Uniden agent gave me instructions for obtaining a replacement. I followed Uniden's instructions to the letter and faxed them all information they requested. That was over two months ago and I have heard nothing from Uniden.

So I called Amazon back as the Amazon agent had instructed me to do. The Amazon agent told me there was nothing they could do and told me I had to deal with Uniden.

Amazon and Uniden both get zero or fewer stars.

Customer Review: Yep, great features, but poor range!
Summary: 3 Stars

Boy, I researched this until I thought I knew exactly what I was buying. We had used Uniden for years until one of the phones got dunked and was then useless, so we figured the new Unidens would be as good or better--much better.

The 9485 has great features--no doubt, but the one thing that it doesn't do is reach the 50 feet or so to the other end of the house. The base is in the kitchen, but our office is at the other end of the house. The satellite phone began to break up terribly--so much so that chunks of conversations would simply be gone. Obviously unacceptable.

Tech support said that our placement exceeded the range of any newer set (not just Uniden!) because of changes mandated by federal law two or three years ago.

We ended up returning the phones to Amazon for a refund and purchasing a 5.8Ghz Panasonic. While some of the features that we desired, and had on the 9485, were missing on the Panasonic, the range is more than adequate for our needs. We are even able to use the phone out in the garden without any break-up. (What was tech support thinking?)

Bottom line: If your satellite phones will be within 25-30 feet of the base, this is a fine phone; otherwise, you'll most likely be sorry you got the system.
