Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Uniden TRU9485-2 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Answering System with Dual Keypad and Extra HandsetCustomer Review: No problems but not the best Summary: 3 Stars
I got this set because the price was right and the reviews were good for the most part but must say that if I used the house phone more often I wouldn't like this. Currently the house phone is barely used and mainly something that was needed for long distance calls and internet so it serves it's purpose. I've had it for over a year now and had no problems but again haven't used it much either.
Prior to this I hadn't owned a land-line phone for years so I'm not sure of the more advanced phones out there but the features on this seem outdated. For one the mechanical sounding man that takes forever to prompt you. Then you cannot skip through a message but have to listen to it all the way through and then delete it on the main unit. Overall it seems like a phone that I may have owned about 10 years ago. Again, I don't know about other more expensive models but this one seems quiet similar to the ones my parent's owned back in the late 90s.
I'd say if you're like me and just want something cheap and reliable it works. If you use the phone a lot and need something more advanced this probably isn't it.
Customer Review: Lacking Summary: 2 Stars
I am disappointed with the phone and am returning it because:
-- sound quality noticeably poor, it is tinny (to me and folks I call)
-- zero consideration of voicemail. This phone has an answering machine (if I could buy one that didn't have one, I would), but you have the ability to turn it off. On or off, if you don't use it (set the rings to 6 or more so that your voicemail kicks in first) and someone leaves a message on voicemail, the phone has no way of indicating that there is a voicemail message for you to pick up. The user has to pick up the phone and listen for the stutter dial tone to detect whether there is a voicemail. Other phones I've owned years older have the flexibility to deal with this quite common situation.
The phone has good points, it has a solid feel to it, the volume of the speaker phone is good, and the basics, like lit keypads and easy to use menus are there.
But, for me, the voice quality (a key factor) is lacking and the issue of voicemail notification combine to make the phone not one that I would recommend purchasing.
Customer Review: Great phone system, poor design of ans machine screening Summary: 4 Stars
Many people have identified the good features of this phone. I get great sound quality and range and no interference with my home wireless network. I also like the speed dial allowing 32 digits per entry. Unlike most other brands with 15-20 digits, and some Uniden models, this lets you enter a full 1-800 number, a couple of pauses, and then a long PIN for a calling card.
What aggravates me (and the reason for deducting a star) is the way call screening works. The idea is to let you listen to your callers leaving messages (or to your friends yelling at you to pick up because they know you screen calls) and deciding if you want to pick up the phone.
The problem with this phone is that it also plays the outgoing message every time. I don't need to hear my own message. Even worse, you get to hear it play all the way through, even if the caller has recognized a machine and immediately hung up. This makes the call screening feature worthless as far as I'm concerned. I'll keep using this phone, but with an old AT&T answering machine attached to it, one that screens calls properly.
Customer Review: Crappy Battery Charge Summary: 3 Stars
I really like this phone system and it's features but i had to give it a 3 because the battery life is absolutely horrible. The phone that i keep on my desk is never used. I can fully charge it, take it off the cradle for one day maybe a day and a half and the charge indicator will go down to 2/3's. So basically it has become one of those phones that has to be constantly left of the charger.
This unit replaced a Panasonic that would hold a charge for days, whether it was being used or not. Sorry but this will be my last Uniden phone.
*update* 1 year later and i hate this phone, i'm buying a panasonic to replace it. We never use this unit because it breaks up so much to the point that we get mad at each other because we're talking and have to keep repeating things. The base unit is literally sitting 3 feet away from me and it still breaks up. These phones have terrible reception and it's driving my wife and i nuckinfuts. We use the trusty Panasonic KX-TG5431 that's sitting right next to this Uniden and it has great range, crystal clear audio and most importantly no breaking up.
Customer Review: Best phone I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
This is quite simply the best cordless phone I've ever owned. For that matter, it rivals all of the corded phones I've ever owned, too. Uniden did their homework on this model, and it begs the question "why did it take so long for such a good phone to be released?" The sound clarity of the system is as good as it gets. Both the base station and the handsets (comes with 2) have speakerphones that are also super clear. Check messages on the base or on the handset where you can control all the normal answering machine functions (handset has a message waiting light). Controls are all well thought out, build quality is good, and the system overall is just amazing. The only possible criticism for this phone is that it won't work in a power outage (not even the base speakerphone, but this is not a surprise). And, if the power does fail, the clock will be reset to 12:00AM (flashing) until you either set the clock or use one of the handsets to reconnect (it will re-sync the time). Other than that, this is an amazing phone, and I say "BUY IT!"
