Customer Review: Great for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using these earphones with my ipod Nano for about a month now and I am very pleased with them. Are they the greatest sounding earphones I auditioned? No, but they cost less than half the price of any that sounded noticeably better. I sincerely believe that they are the best earphones unless you are willing to spend $170 - $200, and I wasn't interested in spending that much for the sound improvement. A couple of things: 1) I wear glasses and I have not noticed any noise associated with this. The cable has a bendable end on it and you simply shape it so that it does not rub on your glasses. I do have a pair of Sony waterproof earphones that I wear when I run because I do not want the sound isolation then or the perspiration running in them. 2) The bass is not great, but better than most in this price range. 3) The treble is fine. Not quite as good as a more expensive set, but again, IMO, best in this price range. 4) They isolate the sound very well if you fit them properly. I am still using the ends that came on them and they fit great right out of the box. 5) Vocals are very clear. 6) Separation and imaging is very good.

If you order these, you will not be disappointed as long as you are not expecting $200 sound out of these $70 earphones. If you are looking for outstanding, thumping bass, you will need to consider over-the-ear headphones.

Customer Review: Love the sound

I bought 2 products from Ultimate Ears to compare them.

Ultimate Ears SuperFi 3 Studio Noise Isolating Earphones (Black)
Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 Noise Isolating Earphones

I connected both to my MP3 player and let them "burned in" for 24 hours before testing them.

-Ultimate Ears SuperFi 3 Studio
The sound is perfect. It doesn't put out a lot of bass but it's right where I want it. Treble and high sounds nice and very accurate.
Very very uncomfortable to wear. I've tried all the tips that come with it but I still couldn't get it to fit right.

-Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 Noise Isolating Earphones
Way too much treble. Bass is too fake, my $20 Smokin' Bud produces more "true bass" than these.
Very comfy. I put them on and 5 minutes later I didn't even realize that I have them on. Be able to wear it any way you want is a plus. I'm not a fan of wrapping the earphones cores around my ears like the SuperFi 3.

After few days of switching back and forth. I decided to return the SuperFi 5. I love the sound of the SuperFi 3 eventhough it's painful to get it on my ears right. Because of this, I give it 4 stars.

Customer Review: A satisfactory treat for your ears
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought these on an audiophile friend's recommendation, and I've been quite pleased with them.

$100 (about $80 when I bought them a year and a half ago) seemed a bit steep to a general audiophile like myself. I found that they are definitely worth it. Nice headphones are the kind of thing you don't think would be necessary/worthwhile until you experience them yourself. I had previously used Sony earbuds: adequate, but these are definitely a step up.

So the sound is great. However, the over-the-ear cord works only reasonably well--the over-the-ear portion is extra thick and not very flexible, so it doesn't fit the contour of your ear super easily. Also, the cord in general is a bit short and too thick (though perhaps more durable because of it). The cord is replaceable, which is definitely a good feature on headphones this expensive, but I've not had to replace mine yet.

The metal case that comes with the headphones is a nice touch. It's quite durable and resilient to dings and dents. The different ear molds are also nice, and I would encourage you to try a few different ones for a while to see which work well for you.

Lastly, don't try sleeping on your side with these in your ears; it works (sort of) but can be painful in the morning. This is more of a general earbud problem, and maybe goes without saying for some others. ^_^

Customer Review: Good to Excellent
Summary: 4 Stars

Looking to upgrade from regular earbuds with the Griffin Caps (that don't fit on the new iPod earbuds, thanks Apple). I must say that the 3 Studio has a very HIGH COMFORT LEVEL. The cable over the ear HOLDS SECURELY and from the moment you jiggle the bud into your ear canal you can feel the cap seal with a pop you can tell you are locked in for a wild ride. With the QUALITY SOUND ISOLATION hearing the girlfriend nag about trash day is a thing of the past, however expect to miss some phone calls unless you keep you phone on vibrate. The SOUND QUALITY is VERY GOOD on the TOP END, however you'll notice that on the LOW END the BASS doesn't pack a punch. Following other peoples reviews I activated the bass boost on my nano, and got some bass rattle. It's not enough to make me want to return them, and it's a good time to set the eq on specific songs. Even then it isn't bad, but I guess thats why they make the studio 5's. The 3.5 plug is on a right angle from the cable which is a little short and can be a little annoying. It comes with an attenuator which took some research to find out that it's for when you are plugged into another device that you do not have control of if another sound breaks in (airport announcement) it doesn't blow your head off. Slick metal case but would have liked it to be large enough to fit a nano. Over all QUALITY SOUND and affordable-ish price.

Customer Review: excellent audio clarity
Summary: 5 Stars

A fine purchase and well worth the cost. A *significant* upgrade over sub 40$ range in ear headphones. Included adapter makes for a tight fit with the iphone. I found the foam buds to be the most versatile and comfortable for long wearing. Audio Clarity is "nearly on-par" with my Grado SR80's that I use for studio environments with no ambient noise. The Grado's give you a little more in terms of subtle mid range and high range but the open design is prone to interference of ambient noise and they aren't portable.

With the Super.fi 3's you get portability, excellent audio clarity, and the excellent bonus of blocking outside noise such as public transit, the public in general etc. These earphones make an excellent alternative for audiophiles who don't want to break the budget and are looking for a portable, ambient blocking, hi-fi in ear design. For studio type listening I still recommend the Grado SR60 or 80

FIT is very important, in order to properly enjoy these you must have a good seal. Follow the instructions, try all the attached buds to find the ones that work best for you. It took me a few try's to get used to the over ear wire and find the proper bud for me.

Additionally, I found that bass was a little weaker than I would have preferred. A slight bump using the equalizer fixed this.
