Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Tripp Lite U026-016 USB2.0 16-Feet Certified Active Extension CableCustomer Review: Excellent solution - for a while... Summary: 4 Stars
I needed to monitor a power panel that was located in an adjacent room. The monitoring port was USB Type B female. To follow existing conduit runs around the periphery of the room required 60 feet of cable to eventually reach my computer. I daisy chained three of these active repeater cables together, working backwards from my computer (USB Type A female port), and finished off the installation with a 12' USB Male A to Male B cable to the power panel. Everything works perfectly!
I first considered USB Wireless, but read too many negative reviews that the claimed 30' range is not achievable through a wall. I also researched feedback on other USB repeater cables, and only this Tripp Lite model seemed to work as advertised. I can confirm that it does. This was a very effective and low cost solution to connecting a distant USB device.
6 month update: After 5 months, 1 of these 3 cables has failed. After 90 days, it's out of warranty, so I ordered another one... I hope these things last longer!
Customer Review: Works Perfectly as an extension for my USB Network Adapter Summary: 5 Stars
1st: I noticed from the bar code number that it was made in the USA;
so, it's a relief knowing it's not just another piece of crap from China.
2nd: It seems to be very well made (but then it should be for the price).
3rd: It performs very well as a USB Repeater. My Linksys WUSB300N USB
Network Adapter performs perfectly using this as a 16 foot extension.
Getting my USB Adapter in front of a Window really improves the signal
strength (although even then, positioning the unit even a couple inches
one way or another can really affect the signal).
Final Comment:
I think sellers would do them selves a favor by stating in their ads
if the product is not made in China. Most people these days
associate the "Made in China" label to mean the same thing
as "CRAP".
It's refreshing to find a good product idea that hasn't been
ruined by Chinese manufacturing.
Customer Review: Good device, did not work with my hub Summary: 4 Stars
I bought one of these cables and a miniature hub to extend USB connections from my desktop, routing the cabling around the side of the room to my sofa to keep things tidy. Unfortunately, though my desktop recognized the USB hub just fine, it continued to give errors for any device connected to said hub. Sounds like this is very hit-or-miss for most users anyways; I just bought a second cable instead. Now I run two of these alongside each other to connect my gaming keyboard and mouse, considerably cheaper than purchasing a wireless bundle, and less of a hassle since you don't need to deal with recharging. The socket end of the cable is the same size as other extenders of this type, and is rather tight so I don't need to worry about the keyboard or mouse becoming unplugged as I move them around. Since the device is recognized as a generic USB hub there was no setup trouble whatsoever. Would buy again - already have!

Customer Review: Does its job, and does it well Summary: 5 Stars
It's basically impossible to get excited over a USB cable, so I won't be using any superlatives when describing this item.
It simply allows you to connect a USB device in another part of a room, further away from a computer than you would be able with regular USB cables. When the computer is on, a red LED will light up inside the large connector at one end to indicate it is working.
Packaging is minimal and instructions are non-existent, but you really don't need them. Simply connect this cable to your computer, and the desired device to the other end. You can even connect a USB hub to this, and the devices to the hub, and the computer will see them all -- in my case, it allowed me to place my three printers on the opposite side of the room where my computer is, freeing my desk and the area immediately around it for other purposes.
Definitely worth the money.
