A surge suppressor should be in every laptop travel bag, and this compact unit travels well, taking up very little space. However, for those traveling outside the USA, it should be noted that this unit does NOT convert electricity! My colleague forgot this tidbit and fried his Tripp Lite Traveler while overseas. Well, I haven't had a surge to trip it so who knows if it really works but I have peice of mind that I have some sort of protection. I like the fact that it has LED lights telling me it is working and that the prong retract to take up less room and less likely to scratch up my laptap. The product doesn't have any voltage compatability ratings on the product itself or accompanying literature that I could find. On the web site, however, it shows the voltage compatability at 120 VAC. This traveler surge suppressor has a retractable plug to connect to an outlet. The mechanism that locks the plug out is extremely hard to activate and it is impossible to push the plug into an outlet without it being locked. Otherwise, the device appears to be as advertised.
