Customer Review: the difference of having a great or a terrible vacation

i bought the gps for my 2 wk vacation to orlando, i recived it as promised by amazon with no charge of delivery.
this tomtom gps was the difference of having a great vacation a not a horrible one, i saved time, fights with my wife of which directions to take, reroute in a second and is very accurate, never let me down.
this 200 usd investment also saved me arround 15,000 usd....yes 15,000 usd, one day coming back from a park we decided to stop ina kentucky fried chicken in the way back the hotel, we ate and leave the restaurant, 5 minutes away from the hotel my wife told me that she forgot her purse in the restaurant, of course i tried to confort her, until she told me that her credit card with 15,000 fifteen thousand dollars credit limit,with out used a penny yet, was in the purse....i really freaked out big time, imagine u stop in a restaurant you dont know where the restaurant was, how long can u take to ask, and try to find the same restaurant almost at 10 pm.
well as i went to the kfc by the reference of the gps on the points of interest that are coming in the tomtom one, i just click back to priors trips, and i went back in less than 20 minutes to kfc with out having a clue where the restaurant was......awossooooommmmmmmmmeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
whe got the purse back and my 200 usd investment became in to a saving of 15000 dollars,thanks to this beatiful gps.
and it really works out of the box, the only recomendetion is to call first where u want to go to find the adress, tom tom will do the rest for great!!!!!!!!!
Customer Review: good product - fatal software upgrade - very, very poor "service"

Initially my Tomtom One was excellent. Then I made the fatal mistake of allowing Tomtom Home to automatically upgrade the software. The device never worked again because it could no longer find any satellites! (My computer has the maximum security offered by Windows XP and Norton Internet Security so it seems unlikely that the process was contaminated in any way.)
On 11 Feb - I contacted Customer Service - nice courteous responses but no solution. Finally, on their advice, I returned it to the retailer on 27 Feb. It finally arrived at Tomtom Service on 8th March. That was the last I have heard of it!!!
I rang Tomtom Customer service on 2nd April and they could not trace the unit. Over the following 2.5 weeks I tried a series of faxes and online service queries but have received absolutely no human intervention or assistance.
In summary - I bought a "good" product, the online software stuffed it up and, over the following two months, Tomtom service achieved nothing except for apparently loosing my Tomtom!!!
Postscript: Finally, almost two months after seeking replacement of the faulty item, I have been advised that it is to be replaced. No apology or expression of regret from Tomtom but at least I will have a GPS.
Even though I vowed never to tangle with Tomtom Customer "Service" again, and I am free to choose the replacement model and manufacturer, I have found that Tomtom One still offers the best performance/price balance for my purposes.
I just hope that my new Tomtom runs well so that I will not have to be "serviced" again by Tomtom!

I purchased this unit for my wife(a real-estate agent). I did a lot of comparisions and read a ton of reviews on GPS units, leaving money out of the picture I focused on two things that she needs/uses on a daily basis. Itinerary(multiple addresses) and two possible saftey features. This allows up to 10 addresses for an itinerary that she can rank in her order, This was probably the main reason. Second was safety, this has a buddy system, which allows another tomtom owner to see where you are. Now we have not used this or tested it yet, but it does have some capability for me to track the device(will do in the future). I could not find any other device that allows any sort of tracking/locating. So this won out. The device works great, she loves it. We used it for two vacations and it worked flawless, did not give me the route I wanted to take for our trip to N.C.(which no GPS unit would have been able to do, because I go a specific route), but was still extremely helpful. For our other vacation, I had no clue where I was going and it did a perfect job. It does not say street names, but that is a preference that makes no difference. For the money it is perfect, and I really did not see any other reason to purchase a more expensive model, did not need another mp3 player or photo viewer. I would have gladly spent more if it was needed, but I needed GPS for a real-estate agent, and I could not find anything that was better than the tom tom one V2. (I am not considering buying the V3)

I just received my Tom-Tom One GPS system after ordering it through Accessory Genie via Amazon for $195.00 which I think was the best all-around deal for GPS units on the site. I received it right away in the box with the easy to follow instruction booklet and car-charger. It comes with a suction cup that you can put on your car window. The unit moves around it different angles easil which comes in handy to avoid sun-glare. The touch screen is real easy to use. You can pop it into your car and use it as soon as it is taken out of the box. I tested it out with the British 'Tim' voice to go to the Grocery store and it does so much more than I thought it would! There are zoom in/out functions, day/night colours, points of interest along the way, optional traffic reports, various voices and languages, and I just love how it immediately recalculates the route automatically when you turn on a different corner. And how nice to see the gas stations coming up, really handy when you are going out of town on a loooong highway. Love it and wish I had bought it earlier on as it would have saved me so much grief from attempting to read and find a location on those annoying paper maps. And no need to even have to look at the screen if you don't feel like it as the vocal instructions are so good, along with the reminders which give you "300 feet, 50 feet, turn now and you will arive at your destination in 50 feet!" Now I feel very comfortable driving to unknown places and feel like a real James Bond in my little Tercel when I drive my car. A few things pleasantly surprised me about this device. It syncs with satellites in literally seconds, even in NYC with all of tall buildings. Though the device is small it is capable of creating a loud clear voice than one can hear in the car. Its good that one can choose from a small variety of voices too in either a UK or American intonation. The display is very bright and easy to see.
some other comments:
Like a lot of gadgets, the more time you spend looking at the options in the menus of the gadget, the more success you'll have with the gadget. The tomtom one is not particularly complicated either but if you are the kind of person who has no patience with gadgets, you might want to pass on all GPS devices alltogether.
Like a lot of GPS devices, sometimes there will be a 2 second delay with information. If you are taking a series of quick turns, the GPS might not be able to keep up with you. This doent happen all of the time but it does happen enough to mention it.
In the box you get a car power adapter so that you dont have to worry about the battery running out.
This model DOES NOT pronouce street names. I dont mind it, but it does mean you'll need to be looking at the tomtom one screen on occasion to confirm street names that are coming up ahead.
best advice I can give it to fiddle with the device for an hour or so BEFORE you get into the car with it the first time so that you are familiar with the screen icons. Then you'll love using it.
