Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TomTom ONE 130-S 3.5-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Portable, easy, TomTom fixed speaker volume Summary: 4 Stars
I like the Easyport Mount. It's much better than an additional clunky thing to pack when bringing your GPS along through the airport.
The GPS itself works just fine -- regular TomTom. I do find the computer generated voice (required to speak street names) harder to understand than Garmin's.
My initial 130S had the volume too soft problem. What finally did it for me was when I discovered that adjusting the volume made no difference to actually what came out of the speaker for the computer generated voices. It did affect the pre-recorded voices, but not the one you're paying the extra $50 for. TomTom issued an RMA and exchanged it for a new unit. This one works properly and can in fact be cranked up to be too loud.
Customer Review: Inaudible - DO NOT BUY!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this item because a friend owns the Tom Tom One which is great and cheap. I bought the 130S since I wanted the voice to also tell me the street names. This product works as well as the old and simple Tom Tom One and has only one flaw but this is really the decisive one: YOU CANNOT HEAR IT! Even turned up to the max, you cannot hear it. The sound is approximately 30% or less as loud as the old Tom Tom One. And sound is really want counts on this product. I even shipped it back to Amazon and they were so nice to send me new one. But still the same. Inaudible sound! So it is the product and not my model. I called the company (TomTom) and they admitted that the sound does not work well on the 130S. DO NOT BUY! You will regret it.
Customer Review: The Best Idea I've ever had Summary: 5 Stars
I drive all over the place because I work in promotions, and getting this GPS was the best decision I've ever made. It has vastly increased my productivity when it comes to errands and easily directs me around Boston, a city in which I used to hate driving with a strong passion. The text to voice is a very important feature, especially at intersections with a few roads coming in and I highly encourage getting a GPS with this feature. I've noticed that sometimes it has trouble connecting to satellites, but plugging it in to charge usually corrects that problem immediately. The volume gets very loud and though it's difficult to adjust sometimes, that small problem doesn't reduce my wholehearted recommendation of the 130S!
Customer Review: GPS for the Business Traveler Summary: 5 Stars
I travel on business and I was looking for a GPS device that would be: reliable for navigation; mount conveniently; and be easy to pack along on trips. I did not want: a picture frame; an MP3 player; a cell phone, etc., -- I just wanted reliable, portable navigation. The TomTom ONE 130S was been an excellent choice based on this criteria.
The directions provided have been on target during my travels in Florida, Georgia and New England. The mounting system is small and simple. The GPS device, the mount, and the car charger, all fit easily in my briefcase. The smaller display takes up less room, and the voice directions make a larger screen unnecessary. It's a great traveling companion.
Customer Review: GPS turns on all by itself Summary: 2 Stars
I'm on my second unit. TomTom replaced the first one because it would randomly turn on all by itself while just sitting on the counter. The replacement unit does this as well. Of course this will result in a dead battery, which is a pain in the butt when you're in a hurry and just want to grab the GPS and make a short run w/o bothering with cords, etc.
It happens once a week or so. Most people probably don't notice because they keep it in the car.
There are numerous complaints on the internet about various TomTom models that do the same thing and that TomTom has not provided any solution. Too bad they don't care more about customer satisfaction.
