Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TomTom ONE 130-S 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

Customer Review: Piece of crap
Summary: 1 Stars

Do yourself a favor and avoid this product - the software sucks. I bought it and with the initial version of software, it worked OK. Then I installed an upgrade - big mistake. I took it while traveling across South Dakota, Wyoming, etc. You would think there should be no problem going from point to point - I mean it's mostly just prairie. But every half hour or so, the device would go completely haywire indicating it was planning a new route. Invariably, it would have me turn into the middle of a wheat field. Once while trying to get onto an expressway, it took me to a spot underneath the overpass. It was hard to judge which exit to take if there were a number in a row, such as in a big city highway system since the device would go haywire and start planning a new route to replace the one it had just calculated minutes earlier. And now, when I connect it to my computer, I just get the Orange TomTom screen and can get no further. What a piece of crap. I just wish there was some way I could re-install the original software.

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY!! WORTHLESS!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I just got a new TomTom 130-s for christmas, and it can't find any of the POI's that I search for anywhere close to me. It's basically worthless. I search for Walmart for example and it takes me directly past two other Walmarts to a third one a long way away. I realize that the city I'm in is still relatively new, but in this case (and many other POIs I've searched for) the place it doesn't have is over a year old. I'm in Arizona, and it told me the nearest IKEA was in Pennsylvania. Do I really have to shell out more money for new maps a couple days after I get it!? What's the point? I always end up having to go back home and search Google maps.
And if that's not bad enough, now it can't find a GPS signal at all. I've reset it, reupdated it and still Nothing.
The worst part? I can't even take this worthless toy back because the person who bought it for me for Christmas bought it more than 14 days before I opened it.
Don't waste your money on a TomTom.

Customer Review: Not your best TomTom
Summary: 2 Stars

I first tried the TomTom One 3rd edition, and although it worked rather well, it did not have spoken street names, a feature that I find very important. I returned it and ordered the TomTom One 130S since it seemed like a good price for the features offered. I noted that some of the earlier reviews were not favorable, but that the later reviews seemed to indicate that problems had been fixed, so I took the chance. Big mistake. This model should never have left the drawing board. Although this model has the "text to speech" feature that provides the spoken street names, the voice is so indistinct that it is difficult to distinguish "turn left" from "turn right" even when the volume is up all the way. After more research, I decided to order the Garmin Nuvi 360, and I have been very pleased with it. Perhaps a different model TomTom would have been better, but stay away from the 130s.

Customer Review: a mediocre gps
Summary: 3 Stars

i was given this model as a christmas gift in 2009. i have now had the unit for 6 months and must say i've given up. although this contains good features such as spoken street names (text to speech) and also has the logo icons of restaurants and shops, there is a down side. i live in metro atlanta and have no problems getting signals with other brands of gps. with the tomtom i have to use the quickfix signal enchancer before every trip i make to ensure that i obtain a signal (which i can lose at any time). the second largest problem is that is tends to send me at least half a mile in the opposite direction of my destination, not a feature i care for in a gps. i have decided to move onto the garmin nuvi 255 which has very similar features, including spoken street names as well as a great signal, without the constant updating downloads.

Customer Review: Decent GPS with wacky moments
Summary: 3 Stars

PROS- Shows local points of interest nearby, in the city, or along the route. Conveniently small. Good design of menu's and maps. You can also view the route by text, maps, or turn by turn.

Cons- Sometimes the GPS will go wacky along the route and keep re-routing itself when it doesn't need to. I simply restart it and hope that it fixes itself(usually works). The Gps also says i'm on the highway most of the time when I'm actually along the feeder road. The satellite signal isn't immediately picked up once you turn it on, I usually have to drive around for 1-2 miles for it to pick up a signal even if I had signal where I turned off the GPS.

It's an okay unit except for when it gets VERY frustrating when it goes wacky and keeps re-routing itself for no reason and then you have no idea where you are going.
