Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Tivoli Audio iPAL Portable Audio Laboratory AM/FM Radio, Silver/White

Customer Review: i is for integrated
Summary: 5 Stars

The iPal is a beautiful and well-constructed piece of equipment. It has great tonal range for the single speaker and portable form. It should have been designed with a handle though.

It gets great reception although it can be subject to electrical interference when moving about the room. I find that fine-tuning the dial usually eliminates this completely.

The dials feel great to move. I love the tuner dial with the geared indicators, it is easy to tun it just right. Very smooth with just the right amount of resistance. You don't have to worry about bumping the dials on accident.

It has a solid, quality feel to it all around.

I've not used my iPod on it. It comes with a simple stereo mini jack male-male cable so any MP3/Tape/CD player would provide input.

I would recommend Tivoli Audio iPAL to any of my friends or family.

Customer Review: Good but not worth $188
Summary: 3 Stars

I've had my PAL for at least 5 years, and paid closer to $120 for it. Back then it was worth it, and I was looking for a second one, however now at $188 I'll keep looking. It sounds very good, and has a very quality feel to it. Battery life was OK as I remember (it sits on a shelf plugged in now). The major problem I have with it is that some time after the warranty period was over the rubberized covering began to peel. As it was a lot of money to spend on a radio in the first place, I took very good care of mine. I did not move it around much, and certainly did not abuse it. I was very disappointed because it changed from a cool, quality portable radio to a shabby-looking, good sounding radio. After years I figured either the features would have been enhanced, or the price lowered, but I cannot justify spending more for the same old product.

Customer Review: Excellent portable for iPod
Summary: 5 Stars

I chose the Tivoli over many other competing brands and makes/models for my iPod. The advantages: It has really good sound for such a small unit. Really. It is small. It has a rechargeable battery that holds the charge for a long time. It is also compatible with other audio inputs (not just an iPod). it has an excellent AM/FM tuner built in, so it can stand alone.

Cons: it does not auto-dock with an iPod, BUT you can get a nice case which holds the iPod at the same time. It does not auto-charge your iPod: if you need to run for DAYS, then this is not a great choice. I typically get well into 40 hours continuous operations without a hassle. It is not stereo.... BUT note that all the competitors with "stereo" speakers only 8" apart will not produce a stereo image to your ears anyway.

Customer Review: You will love the iPal!
Summary: 5 Stars

Although initially hesitant to spend so much money on such a tiny thing, I went ahead and took the plunge. It is perhaps the best $150 I ever spent! The iPal is extremely versatile and portable. It's not much larger than my hand, yet sounds as good as our full stereo system (OK, maybe not exactly as good, but extremely impressive for being so tiny). The best part is that I can carry it to any room with ease (kitchen, back porch, hallway) and hook it up to my iPod, computer and CD player (anything with a headphone jack). It also has a radio that gets great reception - I'm able to pick up stations that our stereo system and other radios can't get. I am glad I decided to choose the Tivoli iPal over the Bose or Klipsch iPod speaker/dock systems, which sound great but aren't nearly as versatile.

Customer Review: Quality and Convenience in One
Summary: 5 Stars

After listening to both the in-motion speakers and Tivoli's iPal, the iPal's sound quality wins hands down. I wouldn't worry much about the fact that iPal is one speaker while in-motion is in stereo since in-motion's 2 speakers are so close together anyway. If you're an audiophile, choice is easy...get the iPal. The convenience of in-motion's dock is nice, but certainly you can live without. And yes, iPal is a little bulkier, but in my opinion, not much harder to travel with than in-motion. In both cases, you'll put the speaker in some type of bag. In-motion is a slimmer design while iPal is more of a cube. Again, don't sweat it...iPal's sound and AM/FM tuner more than make up for it. Listen to both and I think you'll agree with me. I absolutely enjoy the iPal (for a mobile speaker)!
