Customer Review: Great little bedside alarm clock

After reading the mostly good reviews for this clock, I went ahead and ordered it. I was surprised to see it wasn't anywhere near as large as two VHS tapes like one reviewer mentioned. It actually measures 5-1/2" wide, 3" tall and 2" deep. It is very lightweight. The one feature that sold me was the configuration of the controls. There's a single snooze/light bar on the top - very simple, nothing else to press or grab accidentally while half asleep - and all the programming buttons are in the front. Only the alarm on/off switch is located in the back. You have the display options of 12/24-hour time and Fahrenheit/Celsius temperature.
The atomic feature was fussy during setup but the bedroom's location has also been problematic with two previous clocks (an Oregon Scientific and a Skyscan). I now know to take atomic clocks into the kitchen where there's better reception in order to do an initial setup and re-synch twice a year for DST.
Setting up the alarm is fairly intuitive and easy to do (press Mode/Set once and use the up/down buttons for the hour, Mode/Set again, then up/down buttons for the minutes). I'm a heavy sleeper but the alarm is loud enough to wake me up. The beeping is polite and not harsh at all. It starts out slowly and begins to beep faster the more you delay.
From a personal preference, I would've liked a blue backlight instead of orange. Tapping the snooze/light bar illuminates the display for approximately 3 seconds, which isn't long enough if you're trying to set the alarm in the dark. I also would've liked the time digits to be larger - they are about 3/4" tall. 1/3rd of the bottom of the display is taken up by the date, day and temperature (about 5/16" tall).
All in all, for the 6 months I've had this alarm clock I've been happy with it. I haven't dropped it yet so cannot speak to its durability. It does feel cheaply made but if it's anything like a Timex wristwatch, it'll hopefully take a lickin' and keep on tickin' for a few years.
