Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of I.R.K. Professional Industrial Instant Read Digital Infrared Thermometer with Built-in laser + Type K TC input for interchangeable type K probesCustomer Review: Great tool - For Personal and Home Energy Analysis Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this tool to check the temperatures on my wood stove. I could have bought a dedicated thermostat but this tool is faster and I can use it for more than just the wood stove. I have used it to look at the temperature difference between the outside walls and the inside walls. My furnace thermostat is mounted on an inside wall and the temerature difference is at least 5 degrees which means heat is flowing into my exterior walls. I noticed its not the same everywhere so it gives me an idea of where I have to spend money on insulation and/or caulk. I have used it to determine what temperature the pan has to be to make a perfect omlette and what the stove must be set at( med, medlow etc ). The burner gets very hot but the surface of the pan is only a fraction of that and it changes from perfect to hot if you do not watch it. I usually use a griddle with temp control so I do not burn it. I have used it to check the temp of my coffee, I love a good cup of coffee and initial temp is the key. I have used it to check different areas of my freezer to see the hot spots. I have checked the outdoor temps. I have used it to check the temps of my furnance runs. It really does a great job. The laser is really not needed that often but it does help when aiming to get the hang of it. The laser is a great cat toy, they will chase the laser point all day long! It feels solid and I can buy a corded probe for liquids and higher temps. I would recommend this! and the price seemed right. Also, this tool has an adjustment for shiny surfaces, flat black is best a mirror would be the worst.
If you need to know temps around the house get this tool or one just like it. You have to know how to buy one of these so look around at the reviews and see what all the others have to offer, they are not created equal and they look the same.
Description of I.R.K. Professional Industrial Instant Read Digital Infrared Thermometer with Built-in laser + Type K TC input for interchangeable type K probesMost infrared meters sold for less than $100 have the emissivity value fixed at the factory for 0.95. That makes them useful for many organic materials but renders them inaccurate when used with any other material. The emissivity setting of the I.R.K. adjusts in 0.01 increments from 0.1 to 1.0. Here's the neat part: if you don't know the emissivity of your material, simply use a contact thermocouple to measure the surface temp, then adjust the I.R.K.'s emissivity value till your infrared reading matches the thermocouple reading. Slick, huh?
You also get Max, Min, Hold, Diff, Avg, Hi Alarm, Lo Alarm, a bright laser, diplay backlight and a °C/°F button. Even with all this, the I.R.K. is so easy to use. Just press the mode key once-each to step through these features. You probably won't even read the manual.
