Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Thermaltake Mobile Fan II External USB Cooling Fan - Us

Customer Review: Very useful
Summary: 5 Stars

I was going to build something like this before it occurred to me to look for it here. It's just what it looks like: A standard case fan with a rheostat knob, a usb power adapter, and a bit of wire for a stand. The fan is very quiet, almost silent at a moderate speed while still moving a nice amount of air. Overall it's well-made, not cheap or cheesy. The retractable USB cable is a nice bonus.

I use it next to a Macbook Pro. I turn it on when I'm doing resource-intensive things like video rendering, and it can make a 5-10 degree (C) difference in the measured temps of the laptop.

And here's a bonus use: When hanging up my camelbak bladder for drying, I set this fan right in front of the filler opening, and it dries really fast! :)

Customer Review: Clips nicely to the top of my Mac Pro
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't have purchased a better fan to keep my Mac Pro nice and cool in the desk cabinet. I have the Mac Pro and a Western Digital External Hard Drive in the desk cabinet but I removed the back of the cabinet for ventilation and I usually leave the cabinet door open as well.

This little fan clips right to the top handle of my Mac Pro Quad, like it was made for it! So I don't have to worry about it falling off when I have to pull the tower out. Although, I still leave the desk door open, it's nice and cool in there and I no longer worry about the heat damaging circuits.

I'm just so happy that I picked the right fan.

Customer Review: The perfect multi-use cooling solution
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a home theater PC (the HP Digital Entertainment Center z555, which is infamous for overheating and causing internal components to fail) that needed a couple of external fans to help cool it off. And this is the ideal solution. Sure, these things add extra fan noise to an already noisy PC, but they beat frying internal components every couple of months (I've lost 2 video cards, 1 hard drive, and a power supply). Being able to adjust the fan speed is a useful feature, and the retractable USB cord is a thoughtful touch. If I had to knock it for something, it would be that it lacks a nice-looking enclosure; as it is, it looks like an internal PC fan with a USB-powered cord (which it is, of course).

Customer Review: Great little fan for my PS3
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently bought a Play Station 3 and noticed it was getting pretty hot, so I ordered this fan. It does a great job for my purposes. I placed it at the rear of my PS3 blowing full blast towards the unit and leave my glass door open a bit while using the PS3. Big difference in cooling! Some reviewers have complained about there being no on/off switch. This is an attribute for me. I leave the fan plugged in to the USB port on my PS3. If I turn the PS3 on, the fan starts. If I turn it off, the fan stops. So I never have to worry about plugging/unplugging the fan and my PS3 keeps cool while it is on. Over time I'm sure the fan will extend the life of my PS3. Great investment for less than $15.

Customer Review: Great cooling for Mac Mini
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought for my Mac Mini and does a great job of cooling. Have my mac mini on pedestal and this fan is plugged into one of the USB ports. Hottest core on CPU idles at 37 C and rarely goes above 45 C (before idled above 40 C and would go to 65 C or more). I used to use SMC fan control to try to get the same result but extra fan more successful. I adjusted potentiometer so fan is still pretty quiet. Added bonus is it also cools my external firewire hard drive. Bought a second one for my WHS serverHP EX490 1TB Mediasmart Home Server (Black) and also works pretty well (temperature does not go above 47 C).
