Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Graphing CalculatorCustomer Review: calculator is great; PC interface software disappoints Summary: 3 Stars
The TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is a powerful calculator with almost every function that one could desire, a powerful programming environment, and a well-organized keyboard.
On the other hand, the calculator-computer interface is slow and the PC software is limited and poorly documented. One can transfer programs from the calculator to the computer or vice versa, but this capability is not documented in the user manual. I would like to be able to edit a calculator program on the computer, but it appears that this is not possible.
I also have one complaint with the programming environment-- There should be a "break" or "done" command to exit from a loop without using a goto.
Based on my current knowledge, I would rate this product at 4 stars rather than 3 (Amazon does not permit me to change this).

Customer Review: A lot of hype, but it quickly fizzled Summary: 1 Stars
Bought this product recently based on recommendations for an advanced math/ scientific calculator. Apparently, TI has almost all the schools eating out of their hands by having classrooms make these calculators mandatory in many classes.
I will say that the calculator features a lot and you can even purchase more applications to dowload at TI's Website. However, the calculator is complicated to use, and you almost need a course to learn how to use it. Furthermore, the functionality is poorly designed and if you press a wrong button the calculator will often freeze on you.
At the high price for these TI calculators you would think that they would have gotten all the bugs out. But let me assure you they are definitely there, and you would be better served to get a Casio or HP graphing calculator instead.
Customer Review: Calculator that is easy to use with lots of functions Summary: 5 Stars
The TI84 is a calculator that has a lot of functions. Not only this, but like other graphing calculators you can program different programs into it. It is easy to use and the graphs that you can see are great. I don't know if this comes with the program update that was released not long ago, but it doesn't cost a penny if you update. You just have to plug it into the computer and install the TI connect program and from there you can update. It is really easy and you can also configure all your files on TI connect. Some of the new functions of the update is that you can actually do log base and you can also actually see mixed fractions. These are great additions to the calculator and will make your math life much easier! If you have the money, buy this one calculator, it is built well and has great functions!
Customer Review: Great interface, but hardware is ancient Summary: 2 Stars
The TI-80 line of calculators has a very easy-to-learn interface, and this is probably the reason it has become the de facto standard calculator in highschools and colleges across the country.
But would someone please tell Texas Instruments that it's 2009? We don't measure processor speeds with double digit MHz anymore, nor do we measure ram in kilobytes. Not that they need to use world-class hardware, but on the TI-84+ it takes about three seconds to graph sin(x). If my similarly priced nintendo ds and slighly more expensive iphone touch can render 3d graphics in real time, why can't my calculator graph sin(x) in less than 3 seconds? I think for over $100 dollars, Texas Instruments could make a much faster calculator (and a higher resolution screen wouldn't hurt either).
Customer Review: 52 Year Old Rates The TI 84 SPlus Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned the TI 82 and TI 83S Silver Plus before this. TheTI 84 is another wonderful product from Texas Instruments for the student in high School or College student. Any complaints about speed is irrelevant. I personally found the TI 84 very easy to read, fast, nice case-I like it better the TI 83 Silver case-and it included some programs that were not on the TI 83. It is supposed to have other stuff that the TI 83 did not have but I did not notice this. This is because I bought it to assist me in Algebra, trig and etc. For the money it is a great investment and a very useful tool. I will say that one area I noticed a great difference in was viewing the window. For me, (and I wear bi-focals) the TI 84 was noticeable in its clearer image and etc. Hope this is helpfu. -Dave
