I am currently a second-year MBA student, and I have owned a BAII Plus for about six years. I use my calculator almost every day. I can state that it is easy to use (the HP 12C is much less intuitive) and contains all the features you need in a financial calculator. The time value of money functions are very well laid out and simple, as are the cash flow, NPV, and IRR worksheets. There is an easy to use function for pricing bonds, and many other handy features. Although financial calculators are limited in their usefullness (serious financial modeling is done with spreadsheets), this calculator can handle any finance problem that's appropriate for a calculator.Customer Review: It's a required calculator. I had to buy this for my into course in Finance. It definately does it's job, although there are a number of ways to accidently type something in wrong and not know it. The learning curve is not too bad with a friend's help, but I always do the problems twice to double check what I typed in. I think I have a grudge for paying over $30 for a calcluator that doesn't have a bigger screen where I can easily review what I've entered. But I doubt that there are any other calculators in this price range that does what it does, so I can't be too harsh. I'd rather give it a 3.5. It's not what I would idealy want, but I don't know of a better alternative.Customer Review: What is Armstong talking about...?

If you've read the previous review(s) by Mike Armstong, please disregard his comments. This is a great calculator for the CFA exam (from someone that has passed all 3 levels on the first try...with ease!). If you are getting different answers with the same input please see inclosed manual entitled "USER ERROR." This is NOT possible (if you understand how calculators are made and work) unless that particular calculator is broken OR you have yet to master the 'BGN' and 'END' functions of the calculator (for example). The previous reviewer should learn to read the manual, otherwise the CFA is the least of your problems....Customer Review: Dated calculator, horrible keypad

I purchased this calculator for a timed actuary exam and I needed to make quick, accurate calculations with it, but the poor-quality keypad made my calculations prone to error. I've never had any similar problems with any other calculators (I also own a TI-86 and TI-30XIIS). I've never tried the BA II Plus Professional, though.
Though it doesn't have financial functions, the TI-30XIIS is a much better calculator - it functions more like a graphing calculator where the display is like a command-line and the memory values are more clear and easily manipulated.
It's time for the BA II Plus to be upgraded.

Realistically, the BA II Plus can do everything you need from a financial calculator - any of the more advanced function that are lacking are better suited for Excel anyway.
My problem is that for the simple, everyday uses, the BA II Plus requires more keystrokes and is more 'complex' than its counterparts. For people who value time and efficiency, stay away.
I believe this is a classic example of 'you get what you pay for.' Spring for the more expensive HP unless you absolutely cannot afford it.
