Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Texas Instruments 94327 Ti Graphlink USBCustomer Review: Yes, this cable works with the TI-86 calculator in WIndows XP!! Summary: 4 Stars
I saw the previous post regarding a customer who stated he had no problem using this cable with his TI-86. I was hesitant because he didn't state which operating system he was using. I can now confirm that this cable will work with Windows XP. Make sure to use the TI-Connect software and NOT the TI-Graphlink software! VERY IMPORTANT as only the TI-Connect software supports the TI-86 via the USB connection option. Make sure to download the latest version from the Texas Instruments (TI) website. As of 29 January 2007, the latest TI-Connect software version is 1.6. And you must have the Microsoft .NET Framework Windows Updates installed prior to installing the TI-Connect software. Last, but not least make sure you have the calculator turned on before connecting the USB cable to your computer!
It took Texas Instruments long enough to add support for the TI-86 to its TI-Connect software! I guess I can't complain as they did finally listen to their customer's complaints. Goodluck with whatever math course you have waiting ahead of you!
Customer Review: As described Summary: 4 Stars
This item was as described but it took me ALOT of effort to get it to work properly. To the sellers benifit my calculator was the major factor in the issue I was having. IF you are running a REALLY old TI89 with the original OS then you will have the same issues. You will have to updat to the most recent OS before your computer OR the TI connect will recognize your cable, this is not terribly difficult if you know a little about computers the hardest thing was the file extension would not recognized by the calculator so I manually "fixed" the file extension to the one the calculator wanted. Then the new OS was successfully downloaded onto my OLD TI89 and now the cable and sowftware work great!
Summery:
GREAT product
Works well as described
You may need to update your calculators OS to use
Awesome Seller with AMAZING customer service
If it wasn't for having to update the OS it would be 5 stars!
Customer Review: You're gonna need this, TI-89 owners Summary: 5 Stars
The TI-89 is a great calculator but doesn't have some probability distribution software built in. This includes the binompdf and poissonpdf functions that are readily available on a stock TI-83+. (This applies to the original, black TI-89; not sure if the TI-89 Titanium has these installed standard or not)
Serial ports are nonexistant on Macs so you need this if you have one. Some people who wrote early reviews noted that the software didn't completely work with the calculators. With the TI-84 and other new calculators released last year an update of the graph link software was obviously needed, and I am willing to bet my old Mac Plus that it was tweaked to work smoother.
To my knowledge this supports every TI graphing calculator. This cable has come down significantly in price over the past four years and is worth buying over the serial one now.
Customer Review: For now atleast, go with the black serial cable. Summary: 2 Stars
Pros of the USB: This is alot simpler, and quicker to use, and the data transfer is faster when you use usb.Cons: The cable came with my TI-83 plus silver edition. I read about all hte programs i could use on my computer to trasnfer stuff to my calculator ok. And I find the flip card program, it's like a digital verison of writing stuff you need to memorize on teh back and front of a note card and flipping it over. Well I get home and hook up the USB cable, and I find that almost all the programs i want to use can't use a USB cable. It was really agrivation. It just asks what "Com port" you want. And obviously i wnat usb... So the only good for the usb connectivity cable is to upgrade your calculators software and a few other small things. Nothing useful. Maybe they'll upgrade the programs later ot use the USB...
Customer Review: A PAIN TO INSTALL Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this to add the stats program to my ti-89. First of all, the enclosed CD only comes with software for the 83 and 84 even though the outside states that it's good for a wide range of TI's. After I managed to download the driver from the website, it would not recognize my calculator. I complained to Texas Instruments and got no response for help. After checking Google and using at least 10 different troubleshooting techniques, I finally discovered that most NEED A PATCH TO RUN FROM WINDOWS VISTA. After installing the patch, you need to reboot. I would've been happy if the TI people could at least have gotten back to me about my problem so I would've had the calculator set up in time for my exam. I didn't have 50 hours to spend tracking down drivers for a USB connection.
