Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor AntennaCustomer Review: Must be close to the transmitter. Otherwise it is useless! Summary: 2 Stars
I bought two of these HD antennas one for me and one for another family member. The information that is provided by Amazon does not say the distance that you have to live from the transmitter for it to work. I live about 50 miles away from the transmitter, and it did not receive anything at all. I have had a small antenna that attached to the satellite dish that worked great. But it was discarded when I changed service. So I bought this thing. (Which I returned to Amazon)
The other one is in So. California, and it will not receive anything at all too. I think it's about 20 - 30 miles from the transmitter. So I would say you should live very close to the transmitter for this thing to work. The box says you should be no farther than 15 miles to receive good HD. But it is my experience that anywhere further away you may not receive anything.
When I say not receiving anything I mean just fuzz, as if there is no channel at all. It is like you did not even connect anything at all to the TV!
I have no experience with this being within the 15 miles from the transmitter so I can't talk about it's ability there.
It would be great if Amazon would publish what it says on the box. That would save the problem of buying something that is published like it will work, only to get it and find out otherwise.
Customer Review: Another indoor antenna Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this Terk indoor antenna about a year ago. Please allow me to dispel some of the myths.
This is a directional, indoor only antenna. The assembly includes an integrated pair of telescoping rabbit ears that must be extended for VHF reception.
I found the reception to be no better than any of the other indoor antennas I have used.
I got the best results by placing this antenna in my attic. The problem is that, because it is a directional antenna, I must climb into the attic to focus the antenna on different transmission sources. This is very inconvenient, so, if there is such a thing as a rotator for this antenna, it would be VERY useful.
I am using an Igsignia digital to analog converter to receive digital stations in Chicago. Some stations transmit digital VHF, Most transmit digital UHF. Some weak stations "break up" (intermitant audio, pixellated video) during bad weather (wind and rain). But when the antenna is pointed directly to the transmission source, the picture is absolutely perfect, Unfortunately, in the Chicago area, there are at least 4 different transmitting locations. (The bigger networks xmit from the Sears Tower, the big independent (WGN) xmits from the north side, the PBS stations xmit from the Hancock Center, the other independants are spread around the suburbs).
Customer Review: Great antenna Summary: 5 Stars
I live about 30 miles north of Dallas. I have Verizon Fios "fiber optic" Internet and Cable. I am actually paying for the HD package with the HD box and all. This antenna blows Verizon out of the water! The picture is much clearer and the sound is amazingly better. I only get the major network channels but I am considering dropping Fios! When I first got it, I bought the amplified version for $80 at my local Best Buy (really the worst prices!). Went on Amazon and saw that it was almost $50 cheaper and decided to return the other one and swap them out. Accidentally bought the non amplified one on Amazon's site (this could be an argument both for and against drinking and internet shopping). Even with the amplified, I had it on top of my entertainment center and it would lose signal quite often. I put the non amplified in the attic and have never had signal loss again. Very happy with this product. By the way, if you are curious, both antenna's are the exact same design and everything, the difference between the two is that the amplified comes with an ac adapter that you plug in at one end of the coax, so now that I accidentally discovered I didn't need the amplified, there's a little bit of electricity I won't be using (plus it saved me the hassle of trying to plug something in up in the attic).
Customer Review: This is THE indoor antenna - all bands UHF/VHF for HDTV Summary: 5 Stars
Hope this isn't too long-winded, but if it helps someone else make an informed purchase, it's worth it.
I had originally purchased a PHDTV1 ( silver sensor ? - same as the ZHDTV1 I believe) and returned it - I could not get the ABC or CBS HD OTA broadcast channels. After calling the local ABC channel's engineer, he mentioned that they are broadcastnig HD at the VHF frequency level. So, after some more research, I noticed that the PDHTV1 was UHV, NOT VHF capable.
After buying the Terk HDTVi, BINGO! - installed in 10 secs, all channels were there and then some. CBS needed some tweaking of antenna position, but the other channels popped right in. So I can put up with some moving around of the antenna for 1 channel - or I need to play around some more to get ONE position for all channels.
Get this antenna. I'm 12-15 miles from the towers, 2-story aluminum sided house with nothing but trees and an airport (3-5 miles away) inbetween. The antenna is in a closet on the other side of the wall that my TV is mounted to. The attached cable is long enough.
This baby works for UHF AND VHF - required for HD in my city (just West of Cleveland, Ohio). And it costs about the same as the above mentioned antenna - shop around - B&H was the cheapest for me.
Good luck,
Turbo Tony

.Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor Antenna
I bought this antenna as a back up should my cable service go down temporarily. Also just to see what free service has to offer.
I hooked it up to my HDTV with digital tuner. Pointed it East toward where they transmit in Chicago. Wow,I can get most everything transmitted.
FREE HD !!! ABC,NBC,CBS,WGN,FOX,WTTW. 40+ stations.
Please keep in mind you need to be fairly close for an indoor antenna to work. I live in Brookfield IL which is less than 20 miles west from Chicago transmit stations.
Also, I found that after you find best clear direction to point antenna.
#1-disconnect antenna and rescan all stations on TV Tuner to zero out all previous memory in tv box or tuner.
#2-Turn off and turn on TV tuner or digital box.
#3- Reconnect the antenna pointed at best direction and rescan for all stations and this may solve many previous problems.
This free digital over the air TV is a nice choice to have!
I would have gave it five stars The exception is the amount of space this design may take up.
P.S. Does not work in basements.
Gary,Brookfield IL.
