Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor AntennaCustomer Review: Decent Reception - Poor Design Summary: 3 Stars
The overall reception of the product is pretty good but the design flaws are almost unbearable. I live probably 20 - 30 miles from the nearest towers. The antenna is able to pick up a number of stations in the Dallas area. However, there a number of stations where I have to manually turn the antenna in order to pick them up.
Here is what is wrong with the Terk antenna. The design of this product is atrocious. First, the cable comes out the bottom of the unit where it constantly falls out of position if you move the antenna. The base is far too small and the unit itself is top heavy. When the dipoles are extended, the unit becomes even more unstable and will easily fall over if bumped.
I liked this product a lot at first, but I have grown tired of its instability.
Customer Review: Great indoor antenna Summary: 5 Stars
I checked multiple reviews all over the internet for the best over-the-air antenna for my area, which was this antenna. Luckily I'm in a great area for getting 40 OTA channels well, all coming from the same direction. This worked great out of the box. I didn't just look on [...], but also many other sites.
I figured that most of the shows I watch are on the network channels, which come in great with the antenna, HD and all. I can get most of the rest of what I want to watch, like Netflix and lots of other TV, from my laptop. If I have to give up Food Network, so be it. Just trying to find out how best to get more sports for my husband.
My new TV has a TV guide explaining what stations were on what channels. I set my favorites out of those. Great.
Customer Review: Very Good Indoor HDTV Antenna Summary: 5 Stars
When I found out my DirecTV DVR will work with an over the air antenna, I immediatley went online for antenna reviews. As my two favorite brick and mortar stores for AV acessories are Radio Shack and Best Buy, I went for the highest customer rated one at the lowest price. I bought this online for like $45 at Radio Shack. Stupid me..should have checked here. This antenna is awesome. I get all my local channels in high def without having to move the antenna around at all. I liked it so much, I bought a second one at Best Buy and paid MORE for our old bedroom TV using a digital converter. I decided to get another digital converter and hook it to a little flip down LCD TV/DVD player in our kitchen. This time I'm getting it right and buying it here. Bottom line: It works.
Customer Review: Bad design Summary: 1 Stars
Ever since I gave up cable TV due to higher cost and poor program choices, I've been looking for a better set of 'rabbit ears' to get free over the air broadcasts. I mostly just enjoy and watch PBS and educational programming these days, the rest is just so much posturing and nonsense, not to mention the commercials on most cable channels that do nothing but insult the intelligence of American viewers.
Design issue
If you extend the rabbit ears fully the unit falls over, really stupid (read moronic) design and the engineer(s) that designed it need to go back to school and get a real degree.
I immediately returned it to BestBuy and got another design that does not fall over when trying to actually put the device in standard use.
Customer Review: The best so far Summary: 5 Stars
I've had 2 of these antennas --- antennae? --- for 3 years. Since I live close to a big city, I can pull in 16 channels with it. It's super easy to set up and run through a VCR if you want. When local channels first started broadcasting in HDTV picture quality was fantastic. What I don't know right now is the effect of the digital TV conversion box on this antenna. I ordered one of those but haven't received it yet. Maybe I can come back and edit this review.
I'm baaaack ! I bought a Sansonic FT300A DTV converter. Between that and this antenna, I pull in 18 stations with very clear pictures. It took several agonizing tries to get the antenna set in the right direction for all channels but I got it and duct-taped it on the spot.
