Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Terk HDMI-31 Smart HDMI Switch (3 X 1)Customer Review: Another disappointed customer Summary: 2 Stars
Well I got my switch over the weekend and did not work as advertised, it does not switch automatically as it should. I got 3 HDMI devices connected to the switch and the only way I can get it to switch is to disconnect the HDMI cable fromt the back of the switch, hardly what I had intended to do in the first place. I do not have any audio or video problems otherwise I will have it return ASAP. Manual mode works that is why I gave it another star, otherwise it would have been one. If you want a manual switch with some pretty lights, this one is for you. I may add that I tried every suggestion that I read with same results, only pulling the cable or turning the device off from the wall seems to work. Poor product.
Customer Review: Automatic switching works perfect Summary: 5 Stars
My main concern from other reviews would be whether automatic switching would work.
I only have two devices: A LG BD300 Blue Ray Player with Netflix streaming, and a DishNetwork HD DVR Receiver that inputs to a Sony HD 36" Tube TV.
To get the devices to switch, I turn on the LX BD300 to switch to that device. To switch to the DishNetwork receiver, I simply turn off the LX BD300. This is how switching works for me.
If I get another device, I will have to experiment further.
Also, the switch works easy and flawlessly. I just connected the cables.
Cables I used: "2 Meter (6.6 ft) HDMI KING Gold Plated v1.3 HDMI to HDMI Cable with Ferrite Cores"
Customer Review: Works fine for me - Dish network, Mac, and a proprietary set top box Summary: 5 Stars
I worried a bit about buying this given that it worked only for some people.
But I lucked out. It switches automatically between the Mac Mini and the Dish Network satellite box. It switches automatically between the Mac and the proprietary set top box I am testing for my employers. Haven't had to switch between Mac and set top box yet.
It was on sale when I bought it, so consider current price when making your decision. But it does work just fine for me with Dish Network's box and a proprietary box based on a Sigma chip.
Definitely beats plugging and unplugging connectors from the sole HDMI port on the TV. Definitely beats buying a new TV with more HDMI ports.
Customer Review: Switch Terk Summary: 5 Stars
Not really sure what I read about some review. I got this from my brother which was not using it. My samsung is the 3rd series which has only 1 hdmi. Now I have 3.
Even though the WDTV does not terminate the connection (it doesn't completely shutdown) this switch will change from my DVD to my WDTV and when necessary back to my DVD. I have no problems so far.
The only thing I would not buy this gear is because you can find another switch in Amazon for 18 dolars and has remote control, it doesn't need a AC power, it is also a auto switch and cost 3 times less.
But since it came free I am more then please to be using this switch. And it looks great on my rack.
Customer Review: DirecTV users beware Summary: 1 Stars
Just boxed the switch up to ship it back. I am a DirecTV user and I have an HR20 HD DVR that will not pass through the switch. My DVD player works fine through the switch. My HR20 works fine connected directly to the HDMI port on the TV but when I connect the HR20 through the switch the HR20 crashes and has to be uplugged to reboot it.
Bottom line is that the switch seems to work OK as long as you don't have an HR20. I have seen others having this problem as well after researching this online.
I have also read of others using a different switch and the HR20 seems to work fine. Just placed the order for a different brand switch that I have read works for the HR20.
