Customer Review: An excellent HDMI switching device for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I had seen this product in retail stores for twice the price as well as other similar devices for a lot more money. I liked the idea of the automatic switching even though it was not a necessity. The switch is a sleek looking unit and comes with a sleek flat stand that appears to be part of the unit that has rubber feet to keep it relatively slip resistant when you place it on a surface, but, it can be removed for wall or cabinet mounting which, in my case, worked out perfectly as my equipment is remotely located from the TV and allowed me to mount the switch outside of the cabinet for easy access in case I needed to manually switch it. The automatic switching has worked out perfectly for me so no manual switching needed. If you just need a simple switching device for HDMI this one works just fine.

Customer Review: Excellent product at an affordable price, auto switch option is the best.
Summary: 5 Stars

We have an older style projection HD tv with only one HDMI input. Since I got an HDMI cable I been really surprised at the difference in quality and it had became a pain switching back and forth the HDMI cable. I decided this product would work best with the automatic switching and I was right. It does not recognize when the cable box goes off but it does with our PS3 so that you can switch to it as soon as you put it on. I have the unit on top of the tv so anytime I might want to switch manually it is still 20 times easier than moving an HDMI cable. You can manually switch while it is on auto mode or put in manual mode to avoid auto switching. Very pleased with this product and recommend to anyone who is wondering if this is the right one for them. Do you really want another remote control?

Customer Review: Not for TiVo or other DVR owners!
Summary: 3 Stars

This product works great IF you can turn off unused components. However, if you record shows from your cable or satellite box, you know that the receiver must remain on at all times (as would the DVR if it's a separate component) or you would miss recordings. With a receiver and/or TiVo always on, this switcher won't be able to change inputs to, for example your DVD player or XBox, because it works by sensing whether a signal is being output over the HDMI cables, and thus won't switch if two inputs are active simultaneously.

If you have a complicated setup like this, you should instead buy a switcher with a programmable remote so you can either use the switcher's remote to change inputs or train a universal remote to drive the switcher and other peripherals at the same time.

Customer Review: Works as described

I have this connected to my Hitachi 60v500a LCD Rear Projection HDTV's DVI in. I'm componants via HDMI are a DirecTV HD-DVR (HR20) and a Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player. The switch works as designed, auto sensing as my HR20 goes into standby and sensing when my HD-DVD player comes on (and vice-versa) and routing each respecive HDMI signal to the TV. Works like a dream. The ONLY downside--and it's minor--of this product is that the plastic base on which it sits slides off too easily. Not really a big enough deal to bother--some superglue or velcro could fix that, though I've not bothered--that's how minor an issue it is. Otherwise, I'm quite pleased with what was an impulse buy at Best Buy (and--since I needed it same day--much more expensive there--I should have gotten it at Amazon).

Customer Review: Doesn't auto-switch
Summary: 2 Stars

The manual switching works, but after about an hour of messing with it, I gave up on the auto-switch. I have a Time Warner HD cable box and an RCA DVD player.

From experimenting with it I learned:

If I unplug an active HDMI cable and move it to another port, the unit will switch to the new port. It will also pick the correct port if the power cord is detached and re-attached. Hardly auto-switching.

I will probably keep the unit because I can live with manual switching (not that lazy). I am just using it for video, so I don't know if the sound works or not, as others have complained about the sound.

If you are looking for smart switch, look elsewhere because this unit doesn't live up to its marketing.
