I only have one HDMI input on my HDTV. When I only had one HDMI source, that was no problem. However, I now have a PS3, an Xbox360, and an upconverting DVD player, and one HDMI input on my TV is not enough. Switching out cords gets old quick.
At local electronics stores I found a 2 into 1 HDMI cord, but, the cord was only a total of 6 feet long. Two inputs was not enough, and it was not long enough. You definitely don't want cords stretched to reach a console or an input. Like comfortable jeans, you want a "relaxed" fit.
I also found locally an HDMI 3 into 1 switch, but, they wanted $100.00 for it. I thought that was ridiculous.
I came to Amazon. They have this "Terk" 3 into 1 HDMI switch for $50.00. Priced right, and it works great. It knows which HDMI source I've turned on, and it automatically routs it to the HDMI input on my HDTV. It couldn't be simpler.
It's like my cats say, "Simple is good". "Now, Fill up our food bowls".

Great product! no issues or complaints about it. Installation was quick and simple. The Auto Switching function works as described. The switching function works best when all units are off and you turn one on. It doesn't always switch when you have one unit on and then you turn the second unit on... in that case you need to walk up to the Terk Switch and push the button (not exactly a big deal). Audio and video both look good. My DVD player is hooked up with Monster cables and the XBox with inexpensive, generic cables. Both pictures look good!
My system. Currently I have a Sony DVD player and an XBox 360 as inputs and an output leading to my Yamaha Receiver.
The ONLY issue I have is that I can't get my XBox 360 to output in 1080p. It will output in 1080i, but not 1080p. I'm not sure if this is caused by the Terk Switch; however it could be the cause.

This product would not work for me. I was using it with an RCA Scenium 50" projection LCD TV, PS3, and Scientific Atlanta HD Time Warner Cable box with DVR. Apparently my TV is not compatible with the switch. When I connect my cable box or PS3 directly to the TV it works fine. When I try to run the cable box through the switch I get the sound but on screen I get the message "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HDCP. CONNECT COMPONENT CABLES TO TO WATCH TV"
I rated the product four out of five stars since the switch did it's job. The problem seems to be with my TV. Whenever I would turn on the PS3 it would switch, when it was off it would go back to the cable box.
EDIT: From the research I have done it seems the problem I'm having is with the SA 8300 cable box and HDCP problems. I've had the box for around 3 years so I'm thinking about exchanging it with TWC and see if that works.

This product exceeds my expectations by far! I purchased it a few months ago not even really caring about the auto switch feature, just buying it as the price was similar to other hdmi switch boxes. I have my ps3 and cablebox always plugged into it and i have a spare cord hanging off it for my laptop. I have a DRV cable box which people have complained about however it is always on. I do not need to turn it off for it to switch. As soon as the ps3 goes on, it switches to the ps3, when it goes off, it goes back to the cable box. Same with the laptop, if i plug it in, it will automatically switch to my laptop screen and then return to cable when unplugged. I am very happy with this purchase and it still works as a manual switch box which I use sometimes to switch from watching tv and playing the ps3 at the same time. I ordered this switcher but it doesn't quite meet my needs. It works great as an manual switch, but beware if you're set on the automatic switching mode. Not all devices terminate the HDMI link when you power them off (such as my TiVo). If you have a device that doesn't terminate the link, this switch won't switch back to it because it triggers based on the inactive-to-active state change of a connection. For example, I put my TiVo on input 1 and my DVD on input 2. When I turn on the DVD, it switched to input 2 as desired. However, turning the DVD off and the TiVo back on DID NOT switch back to input 1 because the TiVo never terminated the HDMI link and therefore didn't trigger the switcher. Bummer. I wound up ordering the 4-port Hdmi Switcher Box w/ Remote Control (1 Year Warranty) instead which solves my problem by using its remote control.
