Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Targus TXL617 17 XL Notebook BackpackCustomer Review: biggest bang for the buck Summary: 5 Starshas plenty of compartments to store the software, pens, pencils paper, etc. I even was able to pack a second, smaller, laptop in one compartment and felt secure carrying them both.
Customer Review: Suitable for 18.4 inch screen and as daily briefcase Summary: 4 StarsTARGUS TXL717 17 XL Rolling Notebook Case: Recently got a notebook with 18.4 inch screen to replace one with a 17 inch screen. Case I already owned (a Targus) not quite wide enough to fit the new PC.
Originally ordered the rolling case (Targus made) my PC maker offered at discount if purchased with PC, no inside pics available on their site nor any product details. It wasn't a bad case, depending on what one needed it to be, but it was structured as a notebook case/overnight luggage, not a notebook case/briefcase. I NEEDED an everyday briefcase that could also hold the 18.4 PC when/if it was going too. Rolling feature was not a necessity for me, but I liked having the option. My old case doesn't, but the 17 inch used to get heavy with files in tow, and the new PC is a bit heavier than the old one. I shipped the 1st new case back, but needed something workable immediately. If you've looked for cases big enough for an 18.4 inch screen, you know the selection is very limited.
I was leery that this case is advertised for up to 17 inch (not 18.4) screens, but I read through the Amazon reviews and saw several from people with 18.4 screens saying it worked, so I ordered it.
Its only drawback if you're toting an 18.4 screen in this case is that, ideally, it should be a scrinch wider to offer more padding on the sides of the machine. I ALSO PURCHASED THE SONY VAIO NEOPRENE zipper case for added protection (even though I don't have a VAIO) which I would highly recommend if you're using this case for a screen wider than 17 inches. My notebook does fit in this case, if a bit more snugly than I'd like. The case is well made, and well designed. Definitely a briefcase with easy to access areas for files, CDs, peripherals, cables, writing implements, etc. All three ways of toting appear to be made sturdily (double ergonomically shaped handles to carry heavy load in hand, shoulder strap and locking telescoping handle with wheels).
Customer Review: JUST AWESOME Summary: 5 StarsThis Backpack is GREAT. You can easily fit a 17' laptop (I have a 15.5' one) with all the stuff that you might need if you are a tech junky and travel a lot like I do. I can even throw in a Projector if I need to show a presentation, or take with me some books. It has FOUR (and a half) different compartments, and lots of little pockets so you can sort out your stuff. It is very well made and very, very comfortable. It also becomes very handy if you just want to pack it with clothes and shoes and hit the road. Just one thing, this backpack is HUGE, so if you just need to carry a Laptop, the charger and an extra mouse, it might be a good idea to get a smaller one PLUS THIS ONE for more serious use.
Customer Review: This is my 2nd one! Summary: 5 StarsI purchased a Targus TXL617 five years ago and loved it. The zipper finally gave out (after five years of daily use), so a new backpack was in order. I tried a couple other brands and could not find one as great as this model. I couldn't be happier with this backpack!
Customer Review: Overall impression Summary: 4 StarsThe bag has multi-functionality and good for travelling purpose however not much practical in day-to day laptop carrier.
