I recently got the chance to use my Targus TXL617 17 XL Notebook Backpack as a carry on flight bag. It is very comfortable to carry and has room for quite a bit. I had my laptop, 5 books and some things that would not fit in my checked baggage and was left with plenty of extra space. I highly reccomend this bag
