Hi Folks. I read the reviews and decided to buy this 5port switch. I needed it to replace an SMC wireless router/4port hub which over it's lifetime was disappointing at best. This switch worked great right out of the box. I, personally had a little conflict with gateway addresses in the conversion, but once those were resolved everything has functioned flawlessly.
The unit and power supply are very small if you need to transport them. It pretty much is plug and play. Price was definitely right for what I needed to do - 2 laptops, two desktops hooked up to my DSL modem.

The TRENDnet 5-Port Ethernet Switch (5 x 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX RJ-45 Ports) TE100-S5 (Blue) was the prefect choice for my needs. I needed an ethernet switch in my livingroom so that I could connect our Bluray player to the internet in order to use some of the functions of the player. Right out of the box it has worked perfectly for my needs. With-in minutes after I pulled it out of the box I had it plugged in and setup. It is an easy to setup, and easy to use peice of equipment. I will have no reservations about suggesting this switch to anyone who is looking for something similar.Customer Review: a note about "hooking multiple computers to the internet"

I have two of these, they just work, end of story. Yay!
Other reviewers have noted that the setup guide says it's not for hooking multiple computers up to the internet. That language wasn't in the docs for the units I got. I'm guessing that they were just trying to say "This is not a router. It does not firewall, and it doesn't provide DHCP service. It just extends the reach of a router by adding more physical ports to the network.", and that's true of any switch or hub. You most likely already have a router (or "gateway"), so don't worry about it.

This ethernet switch is one of the best buys I've ever made; well packaged and very well designed. The size is perfect...no larger than necessary, and it worked flawlessly right out of the box. I connected the modem to port#1, and two pc's to ports #3&5 - booted 'em up, tested the line speed (dsl), and tested with both operating simultaneously - narry a glitch. Did I mention it a GREAT PRICE ALSO??? If you're worried
about drive-by-snooping via your "wireless", and you've got a reasonable way to run ethernet, I highly recommend this product.

this thing is very simple to use.just plug everything in. I use it to network a couple computers and a playstation three and a dsl modem it works flawlessly. all three devices can use the internet at the same time and i set up a computer network so the two computers can share printers, files, etc. it is really light so i'm not sure how durable it will be over a long period but it was cheap so if i have to buy something else later its not a big deal. if you need something for a home or small office network get this. for the price you cant go wrong.
