Customer Review: Works as stated, but not being used
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this to possibly replace an older 10/100 startech switch I was using for my kids desktops, which were newer. Although it worked, I was not impressed, because the throughput never got beyond 2MB for transfer between desktops or other computers throughtput the house. This is a wired home, with basement runs for each outlet and connected to a 110-block like panel. The other thing I noticed was that, it would stutter if left "on" all the time. Unlike a lot of networking equipment (like my 10-year old DSL router, or the internal Dlink router), the life of this unit is not that long (according to the tech support, they asked me to shut it down when not in use). That is why i took away a star from the ratings. I have this unit back in storage (for possible future use) and still use the old startech, which has stayed on for nearly 5 years.

Customer Review: Worked Like a Charm
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed to split my highspeed internet connection with a second computer. Luckily, I have a Westell 6100 modem that is also a router, so all I needed was an ethernet switch. I anticipated problems hooking this up, but to my surprise it all worked smoothly. All I did was hook up the two computers and modem/ router to the ethernet switch and voila-- I was done! Both computers were up and running on the internet in seconds. So far, I've had the switch for a few weeks and am experiencing no issues. So needless to say, I recommend it highly if you want to share your internet connection amongst computer.

Just a warning, though: 1) This is not a router, so don't expect to split your internet connection if you don't have one 2) This doesn't come with any cables, so make sure you buy as many as you think you'll need along with this unit!

Customer Review: Great switch
Summary: 5 Stars

I have an Apple airport module near my home theater setup. First, I used it only for airtunes and had it connected to the stereo for wireless streaming of music from the laptop. Now, turns out the new blu ray, the new HDTV, the childrens' game console etc. all come with ethernet ports. Since the airport module only has one ethernet 'output' I need a switch to plug them all in. This product does just that. It's an inexpensive solution and does the job perfectly. Plug and play.

Now be careful, it is a switch, not a router. If you need a router, get a router. If you know you can get away with a switch, then this product is what you should consider. Also, be careful when counting ports. It says 5 ports, which means 1 'input' and 4 'outputs'. If you want to connect more than 4 pieces of equipment to your LAN, then get a bigger module.

Customer Review: Compact and easy to setup
Summary: 5 Stars

We recently got new machines at work and being software developers, we have a lot of software that needs to be installed and tested prior to getting rid of our old machines (which can take more than a week) so we needed extra network ports in our offices.

With the price of this switch being under $15, I ordered 1 for myself and 1 for another developer. Took it out of the box, moved the cable from my machine to the switch and put a patch cable from the switch to my 2 computers and it worked with no problem, and I have room for 2 more devices as well.

The unit is very small so it takes very little space on my desk. The case is a little warm, but not overly hot. Have had this in place for about a week now and have had no problems with it and have not noticed any issue with speed.

A great little product.

Customer Review: Light, compact and works great.
Summary: 5 Stars

Bottom line: Small, light weight and just works. Power brick is half the size of the unit itself and is also very light.

I was looking for a portable network switch to keep in my backpack for occasions when I had a network drop but no wireless. Searching around I found this one and saw that the switch itself is small and light, but I was worried about the power brick. Turns out the brick is small too, so I'm very happy with my purchase.

I've used the switch to network two Macs together and to connect multiple Macs to various network drops. The switch has always worked flawlessly. It doesn't care in which of the five ports you plug in the cables, it figures it all out and just works.

According to my kitchen scale, the switch weighs just under 4 ounces and the power brick just under 3.
