Customer Review: TRENDnet 5-Port 10/100Mbps Ethernet Switch TE100-S5 (Blue)
Summary: 5 Stars

This little box has restored my confidence that high build quality, low cost, simplicity of use, and reliability are still alive and well in the world of networking components.

What can I say? I took it out of its box, quickly hooked it up according to the instructions (which really weren't needed), and plugged in the power adapter to my power strip. Voila! It just worked! That's it!

I'm no networking guru, but after congratulating myself for a 5 minute technical job well done, I have to admit that all credit is actually due to this magical little blue box and its apparent excellent design for low cost and ease of use by novices.

It has worked without a peep for the past 3 months for me. If you simply need to expand the number of plugs into your DSL wireless (or maybe even non-wireless) router, this is the little box to get!

Customer Review: A little funky with mixed devices and up stream switches
Summary: 3 Stars

I have 3 of these and I had used one to replace a larger switch and it was fine when it only had PC connected to it. Once I connected something other than a PC.. Like an IP phone or another Switch that would be up stream, things got weird. Come communications was ok but there seems to be an issue with knowing what is up and down stream. After repeated attempts at understanding what was happening, I decided to just remove the second unit and use a "better" (more expensive) switch and that corrected the issues instantly.

Seems that when ever I have more than one of these units in a network where one feed the other, there are issues.

In general when they work they work great. Fast cheap... really cheap! and easy to setup. But if I did not have other equipment to work with I would have thought that they were broke or I had done something wrong.

Customer Review: Perfect Size - Great Price - Great Function
Summary: 5 Stars

This little 5 port switch is in my laptop computer bag at all times. There are plenty of situations I find myself in where there are several people who need Internet access but there is only one connection. Does anyone happen to have a switch? 9 times out of 10 the answer is "no."

This switch has a great feature that I wasn't expecting to find on such a small, low-cost unit. It auto-uplinks to any other switches on the network - no crossover cables necessary. That's one less specialty cable required to carry around to ensure network connectivity. Good job TRENDnet!

Otherwise there is nothing remarkable about this switch besides being small, light and does what network switches are supposed to do. After quite a bit of searching, this was the smallest switch I could find. At 3.1" x 3.9" x 1.2" it can't get much smaller!

Customer Review: The (almost) perfect network appliance
Summary: 5 Stars

There is a lot to like about this little switch. It is a tremendous value for the price ($12). Completely plug and play with autonomous switching, sensing, and configuration, 1000 entry MAC table. Compact size, small power brick. Darned near perfect for home applications and probably small offices as well. My only complaint is the lightweight plastic construction. Not normally a problem but typical network cables plugged into this will have a tendency to tip it and move it around. I have an audio speaker sitting on mine to keep it from wandering. The TrendNet brand has been coming on strong as a reliable manufacturer for reasonable pricing. I liked the performance of this one good enough to replace all of my older Netgear and Cisco hubs (put them on the shelf as spares). Can't comment on it's longevity, but I hope it holds up over time.

Customer Review: Just works
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought two of these to use with my UVERSE receivers. My UVERSE is connected with COAX so the Ethernet port on the receiver is unused.
I plugged the Trendnet switch in to the UVERSE receiver's Ethernet jack and now I have four new Ethernet ports to use for my Blu-Ray, WII, Popcorn hour etc. Worked immediately and has been working for six months without issue. I also have one room where I have a Ethernet UVERSE hookup (vs a COAX) and there I use this switch to connect both the UVERSE receiver and a PC to the Ethernet jack. Also works like a charm.
So this is a very basic unit and all plastic but for the price it is perfect. I also use a Linksys switch (works great) and a netgear switch (does NOT work).
But I think as far as value for money goes the Trendnet is the winner. Will be buying more of these as I need more switches.
