Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet TE100-S5 5-Port Ethernet Switch (5 x 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX RJ-45 Ports)Customer Review: LIFE SAVER Summary: 5 Stars
I love the fact that the box is so small and it doesn't take up a lot of room. I was originally going to purchase a 3 way female splitter but with that the 2nd and 3rd bedroom would not have access to the net at the same time. With this I'm sharing a connection with 4 computers. The main connection is downstairs and i have 3 split offs upstairs. the main connection upstairs is running threw one bedroom and that connection runs off into the 2nd bedroom. With this box i have been able to connect the 2nd and 3rd bedroom the connection in the 2nd room has not lost speed and the 3rd bedroom (which is my room) is running great. The Prime shipping that offered for free for college students really helped me out of a bind. I have a few online classes an a wireless connection extender was more pricey then the box and i found a cheap 50ft Ethernet cord on amazon as well. needless to say the prime shipping they offered help make sure i had internet connection so i was able to attend classes on time and not fall behind FREE PRIME SHIPPING LIFESAVER!!!!!!!!
P.S Ill update if anything changes but as of now everything is a go :)
P.P.S I forgot to mention the 5 year warranty the box comes with another plus
Customer Review: Simple Yet Fantasic Summary: 5 Stars
Speed is a must for my home network. I have a 25 Mbps down/15 Mbps up internet plan. I only use wireless unless absolutely necessary. My need for an additional wired connection arose when I decided to purchase a Sling Media Slingbox SOLO (SB260-100)(great product by the way). I only had 1 wired connection running into my bedroom of gadgets, and this was running to my primary computer. Another connection was required for the Slingbox. I considered several powerline adapters, but the higher rated ones were pretty expensive for 1 additional port and still somewhat hit or miss. I am thrilled to have run across this product. Not only is my Slingbox wired, but I no longer have to rely on wireless for my Playstation 3 and laptop. I ran a Speakeasy speed test on my laptop with my wireless G connection and was only able to achieve 15 Mbps download speeds with a very good wireless signal. Once hard wiring it to the TRENDnet, I was able to achieve the max speed possible for my connection, 25 Mbps. I am thrilled to say the least. Can not be beat for the price. Highly recommended!
Customer Review: Maybe okay for limited bandwidth use Summary: 2 Stars
This product was installed in one of my outbuildings and had three web cams running on it. I added controlbynet's X301 WebRelay Internet switch to it and I could NOT communicate with the appliance, I would get maybe a 25% ping response rate (or usually 0%.) For a day I thought I had a problem with the X301. It would work fine in the house on the LAN, but once in the outbuilding - no go.
The three web cams seemed to work okay which initially led me to believe the problem was with the X301 device. To make a long troubleshooting story short (I've got hours of time in running down this problem), I bought another switch (a D-Link) and the X301 and the three web cams were extremely happy (and reliable.)
I've been a geek for a very long time, but I've never run into anything like this before. My only conclusion is the bandwidth of this little switch isn't good enough to handle the kind of traffic I was subjecting it to. Not sure I would ever take a chance again on a product from this company (I was going to say manufacturer, but there are few of them and many businesses selling products essentially designed and produced offshore.)
Customer Review: Remarkable little device. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this switch, needing to add some ethernet lines to a 4 port U-verse gateway. I was disappointed when it arrived and the booklet coming with it said one could not hook up multiple devices to the internet via one port with this switch. I set it aside. One day I thought what the hell? So I tried it. Maybe I misunderstand; but one may expand a 4 port gateway into many ports. It certainly works. I have 2 computers, 2 blu-ray players, 2 HD DVRs; 2 computers. Using two of these switches, one is used in another part of the house and is connected by a 100' ethernet cable. I thought it might work as long as multiple devices were not accessing the internet at the same time. Doesn't matter. A blu-ray player can be streaming a movie from Netflix and a computer on the same switch can be cruising the internet, at the same time. With no loss of speed on either. I do have the fastest U-verse speed, 18 mbps download. Don't know if that makes a difference. Don't let anyone tell you, this switch will not in effect turn 1 port into 2 or more ports. It works for me. (again maybe I misunderstand the proscription.)
Customer Review: Excellent for What It Is, But Limited Summary: 4 Stars
This switch works really well for what it is; but it is limited. It's easy to use, easy to set up, just plug it in and go. However, if you are trying to connect multiple devices to the internet and you are using a Comcast cable modem (and probably other cable internet service providers too), this is not the device you want to buy. You will only be able to connect one device at a time if you use this device unless you purchase extra IP addresses from Comcast. If you don't want to pay Comcast extra money every month what you need to buy is a router (which is able to take the IP address assigned to you by your ISP and then assign its own IP addresses to each device, something a switch cannot do). Some routers do not have enough ports for the number of devices you want to connect to the internet, and with those you would need to add a switch like this device (see what playing around with home networking can teach you? :-)) I hope this review helps someone else avoid my mistake, but this is not to suggest that there is any fault with the device itself. For what it is, it works great! :-)
