I got this to trace which jacks inside the house actually go to the outside box, I needed to know this in order to have "naked" dsl installed. The phone tech claimed there is an inside wiring problem and he needs at least $150 to isolate and fix it. So before I shelled out that much money, I decided to give it a shot myself. I chose this model after reading the good reviews. It didn't come with RJ45 to RJ11 adapter but I just plugged in the RJ11 into RJ45 (tight fit but works) and after going around the house performing tests, thirty minute later I found a short in one of the jacks. All in all, product was easy to use, well made (for the price), and performed as advertised. what more can I ask for?Customer Review: great value

This network cable tester appears to be very generic but is actually much better than most similar testers. It can scan through each pinout and test each individual wire, whereas some testers only test pairs. It also has a loopback jack on the main unit so you can test local cables easily. It comes with BNC adapters, which many others do not, and also a short 8p8c cable for connecting to a patch panel. As simple as this sounds, one of the best features is the power slider switch, which is much better design than other testers with push power buttons that accidentally get pressed in a bag and kill the 9v battery.Customer Review: Trendnet Cable Tester

Great product to use in the installation of UTP cable. Used it to install structured media case for internet Cat6, telephone Cat3 and cable RJ59 around the whole house. Works with Cat6 & RJ11 modulars. Handy device to check pin continuity. Connect it to ends of jacks. Device will tell you if the 8 wires are connected correctly standard B or A. Since it is a basic device it will not tell you the length of the cable run. To keep cable to the correct length measure off or use another cable no longer than 100 feet. Uses 9 volt battery not included.Customer Review: Great product

The TRENDware Cable Tester works as advertised. It supports standard ethernet and coaxial (comes with adapter plugs). The "auto" mechanism to successively test the various wires works well. The tone generator is very effective in figuring out which cable to connect - once you get to other end of it somewhere else in the house (this save you from having to switch to another tone generator). Nice packaging to neatly keep everything together. Very happy with the purchase. Also was a reasonable deal. Recommended.Customer Review: Affordable network cable tester.

I was empoyed in the private sector for over 35 years supporting IT services including network distribution. I had available network cable testers 3, 4, or 5 times the cost factor of this unit. I now have a private IT services business in semi-retirement and cannot afford the same type of units that the big companies made available. However, this unit provides all the basic and necessary features to verify the proper termination and continuity of network cables at a much more affordable price.
