Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-207K (Blue)Customer Review: great product Summary: 5 Stars
I just opened the box and hooked this unit up. It will be used between my old pc and one furnished by my employer to use at home but with restrictions as what I can download ect. It was very easy to install, needs no outside power cord, and works great. The only drawback is I have a wireless keyboard and mouse and these cannot work with it because there is an additional purple plug-in that the box does not have. If anyone knows of a way to use this keyboard and mouse with the Trendnet please let me know. For now I plugged in a USB keyboard and mouse and I guess I will get used to the new keyboard. So far, it works great and I can leave my work computer on and switch to my own pc at the click of a button!! This comes in handy since my own unit has my printer software on it and the new one does not. The price was very affordable and it even comes with the cables.
Customer Review: Works seamlessly Summary: 5 Stars
We got this little KVM switch, and have been very happy with how easily it switches between our desktop and various home/work laptops. It came in perfect shape, including all the cables you need to set it up. Your original video/keyboard/mouse cables plug into the box "out" and it comes with 2 video/keyboard/mouse "in" cables). All of it ran seamlessly, without having to use the installation disc that came with it. This is perfect if you're using a work laptop that has installation restrictions, like I have. The disc is helpful if you want to set up a keyboard shortcut to switch between computers, but the buttons on the top of the switch work well for us. Some reviews mentioned a lag in response for the keyboard/mouse during the switching process. We haven't had that problem; the switch has been almost instantaneous with both XP & Vista systems.
Customer Review: Great Product, Delivers in Spades Summary: 5 Stars
This USB KVM Switch did exactly what I wanted it to, split my Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse between 2 computers, as I often work on computers for others. This model requires you to have a USB Keyboard & Mouse, but Trendnet does make a PS2 version if you have older Keyboard & Mouse. Some noted a problem when sharing the Keyboard & Mouse via 1 USB out, but I've noted Zero problems. Also noted no video quality loss on pass thru.
The only flaw of note, I use it on my computer desk, within easy reach, so had to "stand it upright." If it came with some sort of vertical stand it would have been perfect, but I used some Scotch Reclosable Fastener (hi tech velcro) and it is now out of way, and upright, exactly as I needed it! I picked it up on sale @ Radio Shack for $14, so I feel I got an outstanding deal, and have had zero problems in past 2 months!
Customer Review: What they don't say Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this to hook up two computers at home, both under my desk. Trendnet TK207K can ONLY use 4 ft cables so I can not use it for my set up.
No where did it say anything about the cables being 4 ft long or that longer cables could not be use with this KVM. In fact they go to great lengths to hide this fact. I searched the net looking for a new KVM as I gave my old one to my grandson. Cable length of others are 6 ft so I gave it no thought when I did not see a length listed. When I opened the box and found 4 ft cables I went to the site to find longer cables. There I found no cables listed for the TK207K, though some longer cables were listed for other KVMs. On the FAQ page I found that the only supported length of cable was 4 ft. An inquiry to support gave me the answer that 4 ft was the longest length I could use with this KVM.
Customer Review: Gets the job done, and done well for the price Summary: 4 Stars
Been using this unit a few weeks now. I didn't need the VGA part -- I only wanted a two-port USB switch for my mouse & keyboard and this was the most reasonably-priced item I could find that would fit the bill.
The good: works perfectly fine without any VGA connectors attached to monitors, so works for my purposes just fine.
The bad: Well, the cables that come with it are a little bit short. I have two computers each at opposite ends of a cafeteria table and the cables are basically not long enough to reach both of them (not and still have the unit be on the table instead of on the floor.)
The nit-picky: It takes about 3 seconds for the unit to switch over between computers. It would be awesome if that were 1 second, but at this price you really can't complain.
Overall, I recommend. A solid buy.
