Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS8GSDHC6ECustomer Review: Good, but no case - pay a little more for the other version Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered a few of these for an upcoming trip to hold my pictures and other media files. They all are fine. However, I also ordered this:
Transcend TS8GSDHC6-S5W 8GB SDHC6 Memory Card with Card Reader which I would suggest you order instead.
The other option is only a few dollars more, includes the exact same 8GB memory card, but has 2 important benefits:
(1) it comes with a memory card reader for easy upload to devices with a USB port and
(2) it includes a case for the memory card, which this version doesn't.
It's so much easier to switch between memory cards if you have somewhere safe to put them when they're not in a camera or computer, and this version doesn't offer a case.
Customer Review: Good Value Summary: 5 Stars
I'll begin by saying that I've always purchased Sandisk memory cards for all of my digital cameras and was very hesitant to purchase this card. My daughter told me that she had several Transcend cards and had experienced no problems with them. The reviews here still worried me some but I decided to give them a try - knowing I had a small sandisk that I could use as backup (even if it meant having to dump the card to my laptop several times.) I'm happy to report that I used these cards this weekend while shooting a wedding (I did some test shots first) and experienced no problems. There was no lag time even when shooting several shots in quick succession and my images look great. I was also impressed with the packaging - each card was in a snap-lock plastic case and sealed in a small bubble wrap envelope.
Customer Review: Don't Let This Happen to You..... Summary: 1 Stars
It's great to have 8GB of memory but it is a double edged sword. Today after using this card for only the second time, it failed on me. I lost almost 200 precious images - gone forever. I am what you would call an enthusiast or hobbyist. I love photography and spend every spare minute, which is very seldom these days, pursuing my passion. So I do a fair amount of experimentation. These cards are great when they work - but if they fail you even once - the results can be catastrophic. Maybe I am the unlucky 1 of 250 reviewers with a bad experience with this product, but I feel it is my responsibility to report this to everyone. I hope it never happens to you. It is human nature for me to wonder, if I had spent a few more dollars for a better brand name, would my photos be intact today?
Customer Review: Decent Summary: 4 Stars
For those looking for SD cards for a camera, you should know that the Class ratings are some combination of max/continuous, random/sequential, read/write speeds. But the continuous sequential write speed is basically the only one that matters for use in a DSLR, and for this purpose, Sandisk does better than Transcend. Also, there's no reason not to buy Class 10, which are not much more expensive (if at all) for cards up to about 8GB.
I'm using this card in my Canon Rebel XS (the EOS 1000D), which doesn't have very high FPS, and doesn't do video. If you have basically any higher-end DSLR, stick to Sandisk Class 10. I haven't tested it, but I would guess that the "burst" modes of even some high end compact cameras (which can hit 10 FPS for short bursts) might stress this card.
Customer Review: Perfect companion to Canon G9 Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for using in my Canon G9 for shooting in RAW mode. Shooting RAW take a lot of space, but the ability to adjust shots in post processing is totally worth it. I wanted to be able to fit enough shots on this card to make shooting RAW practical. I can get 459 RAW shots on my G9 with this card (according to the camera display), and I haven't run out of space while shooting (yet). Besides, there is really no reason to skimp on storage these days since prices are reasonable.
If you have a camera (or other device) that accepts and uses SDHC cards, I recommend it. I get good RAW mode shooting performance, speedy data transfers, and can shoot a whopping 1459 HQ JPEGs in Auto mode. If you use the video mode with your camera, you'll appreciate the longer recording times too.
