Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card TS8GSDHC6

Customer Review: Barely qualifies as class 6
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this card because I take a number of speed shots and, while my camera can hold them in memory for a period of time until they are written to disk, I periodically fill that memory as well. As a result I wanted to get a fast card compatible with my camera. The specs for class 4 memory cards go up to 15MB per second, while the ones for 6 cards go up to 20MBps. The packaging claims 16MBps meaning that this only barely gets into the class 6 range. This would be more than adequate for most things, but when I am taking pictures of my daughter's rugby team in sport mode, I want them to be written to the card as fast as possible, I know that the card speed is just one of a number of things that go into the actual write speed, but this is the one that I can easily change. Like I said, for most things, this card would be perfectly acceptable and the price is pretty good. It just wasn't what I wanted/needed.

Customer Review: Great SD Cards for Good Price
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very pleased with the performance of these SD cards. I'm a filmmaker, and I'm currently doing a lot of HD video shooting on a Canon T2i DSLR that uses SD cards. I had previously been using Class 4 SD cards, and ran into occasional problems where the card could not save the data quickly enough and the camera would stop recording video. Since upgrading to these Class 6 cards, I have not had this issue at all. In fact, my buffer meter (which only pops up when the SD card is struggling to save data quickly enough) no longer pops up at all on my screen while shooting video, and delay time between stopping the recording and the camera finalizing the file is much shorter. As far as value, these 8 GB class 6 SD cards were the same price as the class 4 cards of the same size I was using before. This is a much better option for anyone needing the better speed of a class 6 card. The value is excellent!

Customer Review: Wow! An essential for digital photographers using SDHC cameras
Summary: 5 Stars

All I can say is WOW! We have sure come a long way in a short time. This little 8GB SDHC memory card is all one could ask for in an SDHC card. In my Nikon D80 it lets me take hundreds and hundreds of pictures. Speaking subjectively, the write speed seems to be faster than the camera's buffer, so that the card is not a bottleneck when taking a long series of continuous photos.

The ONLY thing I disliked about this card was the packaging. It comes in that hard-plastic type of container that can literally blunt the edge of one's knife or scissors. Or worse, when trying to open it it would be possible to damage the card itself. Why do retailers do this? Also, the card did not come with a little plastic card container. These are minor quibbles.

Two or three of these inexpensive cards, and one would have enough photo capacity for any vacation. I love the digital age!

Customer Review: over 16MB/sec
Summary: 5 Stars

In my new card reader, this high value card has a transfer rate of better than 16MB/sec. I learned that my old card reader was a huge bottleneck at less than half this rate. Some reviews indicate a few of the cards fail right away, so I am using it for a flash drive before using it for vacation pictures.

Several months later, I purchased a second card. Same brand and model, but this one came from a different factory in a different country. It is about 1MB/sec slower, but still way better than comparably priced competition. Only Patriot is close in this price range. Still a very happy customer.

Note: In the interim, I bought another of these cards from a different supplier that turned out to be counterfeit. There should be a serial number on the back of the card on the same side as the lock tab, composed of 10 all numeric digits, not counting any spaces.

Customer Review: Saving my data
Summary: 5 Stars

In these modern times, computers with windows & hard drives are wonderous miracles, but some of our computers crash, & since these little memory chips can remember for at least ten years, we can now save our favorite little programs, & data, that could be easily lost.
If we overload our computer & we must do recovery, that will only erase the C drive, and the memory chip is safe from recovery.
Cd's are also great for saving files, if kept in a safe place, but a scratch may destroy what you were saving.
If your computer has a place for memory chips, then great, but many have a USB port, you can get a card reader, & begin to save anything that you dont want to loose, on a little memory chip like this one.
This 8 GB Transend, was reasonably priced. They are not only good for pictures, but data also, & you have no problem to edit any files that you wish.
