Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5WCustomer Review: It may be Class 6, but it's still slow Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this Transcend 16GB memory card to use in a Canon HF100 camcorder. I think Amazon even recommended the pair. And the price was right.
Unfortunately, this card is slow. When I turn on my Canon camcorder, I have to stare at a message saying "READING THE CARD" for 10-15 seconds before I can take a picture. The wait to take a movie is better, but still 4-5 seconds.
I tried my old 2GB Sandisk Extreme III card, and it is at least TWICE AS FAST, so I may have to send this Transcend back. Waiting 3-4 seconds is OK, but 10-15 is awful. I'm missing shots. I also need to see if the Transcend can keep up with 17 Mbps video mode. It claims to be "Class 6" speed, but maybe it's slow at random accesses? Frustrating.
Customer Review: Large memory size makes it slow. Summary: 4 Stars
I boughtt this SD card and reader to use for my remote surveillance camera videos. It had no problems with capturing tthe video nor playing them back . The large capacity made it possible to keep larger files, which translates into higher quality videos.
I did notice, however, that despite the fact that it worked flawlessly in the camera and computer, the speed of transfer was slower than other cards I tried in the same reader. Just by rough estimate this card transferred a little less than 1 meg/second. My other cards did about twice that. Add to this the huge capacity and you'll find that filling the full 16Gigs from scratch will be a time consuming activity. Otherwise, this card seems perfectly suited to the task I need it for.
Customer Review: Transcend SD Memory Card with reader Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to use with my Canon Vixia HF11 Camcorder. I usually shoot video recording to the built-in 32GB memory. According to Canon's website recording to the built-in memory is necessary for shutter speeds over 1/500th. Then, in the camcorder, I copy the clips to the camera's removable card. This avoids connecting the camcorder to the computer with a USB cord and having to use the AC adapter. So I wanted a card that had as much memory as possible, up to 32GB. This is the closest Class 6 card I found at a reasonable price. I then remove the card and, using the card reader, copy to my computer, a ThinkPad T400. The reader is more compact than my previous one. The whole combination works great and I am very satisfied.
Customer Review: Very fast but the reader has plastic USB! Summary: 4 Stars
Have been using Transcend 8GB class 6 for a couple of years w/o any problems. Read that their reader is one of the fastest, so I ordered 16GB with the reader. Wanted the one shown in the pic with metal tip, so ordered from Thememstore for a couple bucks more than directly from Amazon. Oops, received all plastic... Works really fast (faster than class10 card with generic USB2) but the reader won't last on the field trips.
Was planning to return aand trying to find the right one on ebay. Contacted Thememstore and left on a 5 day trip. Came back home and to my surprise had a "metal" version in my mail free of charge. Thanks!!! Recommend the seller!
Amazon, please update the pic!!!
Customer Review: A cheap and great option Summary: 5 Stars
If you do a search around Google and other sites for cheap 16GB SDHC Cards you won't find many (any?) cheaper than this, even without the Card Reader. I use it with my Canon Vixia and it has both the cards I have used have been flawless. The card readers are nice for some folks I guess however all of my machines have card readers these days and I was able to access the stored content on these without a problem.
There is not much more to say, for Canon Vixia users you will get flawless performance and a price point that is pretty well unbeatable without compromise. That is all there is to it. Best Buy were selling 8GB cards for more than the cost of this last time I checked (August 2008).
