Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5WCustomer Review: Exactly what I wanted Summary: 4 Stars
The card and reader are great! The card is so big it holds way too many pictures. I've had it for almost a year and have recently started having small problems: some pictures dissapearing, and sometimes my computer can't read the card. I just went through all my pictures and videos on it (over 1000) and saved them to my computer fearing it will quit working completely. I love the card, and the reader is the best part. I haven't had to dig out my camera cord once to transfer pictures. It plugs right into my computer & printer. I even enjoy the fact that I can save documents on it for school or whatever else and print when needed. Overall, good price ($35.92), and a great product. I just hope it doesn't quit working all together. I purchased this to go with my Canon Power Shot SD790 IS. Perfect!
Customer Review: works as expected Summary: 4 Stars
I picked up a pair of these through a deal on another website. I use them in my new Canon HF-100 camcorder. They're SD cards, it's hard to 'review' them because they operate pretty much all the same. The card itself seems to be made properly. It's not 'indestructible' but doesn't seem any more or less fragile than any other cards.
The reader is a little unusual in that the SD card sticks out the side of it, not the end. This won't be a problem for most folks but it may be worth considering, especially if your USB ports are jammed up close together or alongside other occupied connections. The back of a PC might be a bit tight if there's lots of cabling already there. YMMV, of course.
If you get a good price on it (mine were around $60 each) then it's worth considering.
Customer Review: Very helpful memory card Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this card for a trip to Europe. I bought a 16 GB because I knew I was going to take A LOT of pictures, and this was exactly what I needed. I took about 3000 pictures and had room for about 2000 more (with the quality settings I had on my camera - 10 megapixel and something about lower quality allowed me to take this many).
I'm not really sure if there's a big difference between memory cards as far as performance is concerned, but this one seemed to do a great job of writing the pictures quickly.
The extra USB hookup is also very helpful. I usually have to use a newer laptop with a memory card slot to upload the pictures, and then I send them to my desktop, but this lets me upload them right to my desktop.
Overall, a great buy.
Customer Review: Works for me Summary: 5 Stars
I have a 14.6MP Pentax K20D and shoot in RAW which produces some large files. The adequate 1GB and 2GB SanDisk Ultra II's I was using in the old 6MP K100D suddenly seemed tiny.
I watched prices of memory cards on Amazon for a while, and picked up this one (and 2 x 8GB cards with reader) to go with the 4 x 4GB Transends (and some Kingston and Lexars) I had. The combos were on sale for cheaper than the card-only price. I don't do much "burst" shooting, but I have not noticed any write-time issues.
The card reader is nice and compact, and replaces a larger and USB-cabled SanDisk reader I had been using. Some people wondered if you can copy to the card through the reader. Yes, you can.
I think I'm set for memory cards, now.
Customer Review: Plenty of space, low cost... great buy! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the Transcend because I wanted to test the speed compared to my Sandisk Extreme III (until now I was a loyal Sandisk customer, but the prices are too high compared to competition). I used the 16gb Transcend 133x in my Canon EOS 1D Mark III, fine jpeg, at 10fps and I didn't see much of a difference in the write speed, if any. I did see a small difference in the read speed when copying files from my card to my Mac Pro...but not enough of a difference to warrant it being triple the cost. I see no reason to spend the extra $$ on Sandisk and will start using Transcend. Don't get me wrong, I do own a $4500 camera and a $5000 Mac Pro, so spending money for better products is something I'm very willing to do, but I just can't justify it in this case.
