Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Transcend 16 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card TS16GSDHC6ECustomer Review: Packaging is good for me, but likely bad for the planet Summary: 4 Stars
The 'Frustration free' packaging does not place the card in the nuclear holocaust-resistant plastic shell...which is nice. (Ever slice open a finger on that stuff once you've created a sharp edge along the cut you had to create with a broad axe to get it open?)
However...the two Transcend cards came in a box big enough to ship a live animal. There was the box, which was about 12"x12"x6", which was stuffed full of paper, then the cards were in a (something like an 8"x8") cardboard sleeve that was quite stiff (it likely could have been the shipping pack with very little added protection).
...all this for two SDHC cards which, when set side-by-side, are still smaller than a credit card.
The product arrived unharmed (with that much box around it, they could have only arrived damaged if shipped by catapult...and even then...), and the price was extremely competitive of course.
Very satisfied, but hoping the packaging could be toned down a little from an ecological standpoint...though it is all recyclable.
Customer Review: May work for sum but not for me! Summary: 1 Stars
i ordered 2 of these for my hd camcorder , first i formated the card with my camcorder then within maybe 3 or 4 min of footage it said memory full. so i took it out and put it back in and tried once more this time my camcorder hangs up within a few min wont even shut off i have to take the battery out . in disbeleif i tried maybe 15 times all with the same result. so i thought maybe it was just this particular card. i tried the other one and the same problem happened again with my camcorder hanging up and i have to take the battery out. now you may ask well it's something to do with my camcorder , well i know it's not i have a class 4 sandisk sd card 2gb and it works in the camera flawlessly and i know my equipment will support up to 8gb sdhc. so my conclusion is maybe it will be ok on my digital camera i don't know. but i beleive it's going to work for some people and not for others. i'm dissapointed seemed like a good deal. maybe like i said it will work in my digital camera but i originally wanted this for my camcorder, so i'm upset. next time sandisk!
Customer Review: a shame Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this for my Digital Camera thinking that this would be a good SDHC card and more than capable write speed. I formatting it, and took it onto vacation to Spain (I figured one 8 gig card would be enough for pics of the fam, ocean, etc). It didn't last two days before I got an error and had to reformat (it deleted the handful of clips I had on it). It was annoying, but I thought it may have been a fluke.
About half way through my vaction IT HAPPENED AGAIN. reformatted the card, and everything went back to normal. But! when I checked the video clips on my PC when I got back, I noticed that the video clips would "stutter" as if hung up on something. All my other memory cards (several 2 gigs) have never had a problem like that. So basically, most of my clips were unwatchable/useable. Ive learned since, that this is due to the write speed (thats why people buy faster SD cards, especially for high capacity cards). If I had to do it again, I would have gotten a 6.0 speed SDHC card, or just several 2 gig SD cards.
Customer Review: excellent card for HF100 Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this recently for my Canon HF100. This card works fine with that camcorder (i.e. I can record at the highest quality possible - 17Mbps). The thing to note though is HF100 does not really require a card this fast (i.e. Class 6). It requires only Class 4. But then, this card currently is available for about the same price (or less) as any other Class 4 card.. So go ahead and buy this - it works as advertized.
Also about the capacity, for the battery that comes with HF100, there is no significant benefit buying one 16GB Vs 2 of 8GB cards (right now, 2 8GB cards go for $10 less than a 16GB). This is because the battery lasts only about an hour, and an 8GB card is perfect to record video at highest quality setting for slightly over 1 hour. So if you arent planning to buy an additional battery (which is $90 now, because it is too new), I would say get this (or some other) 8GB card. By the time the price for the battery comes down, the 16GB cards would have come down even further, so you can buy 16GB card at that time.
Customer Review: Excellent value, works great with my Canon Vixia HF10! Summary: 5 Stars
I was very impressed with the "Frustration-Free Packaging" -- I'd never seen that before -- I don't know why fragile little electronic gadgets have to be packed in plastic containers that require intensive and violent cutting ripping and tearing in order to be opened. This one is just a padded paper envelope that can be torn open, easy as pie.
I've used this for weeks with my Canon Vixia HF10 camcorder to record high definition video files (AVCHD format). It works great - and I'm very happy with the price. I bought one card by itself and one with the reader - combined with my onboard memory I should be set for most projects. I really like to use the reader since it leaves my camcorder free - and it's so much handier (for some reason by design the camcorder won't run off batteries when it is downloading files, so you have to plug it in to the wall outlet and also plug it into the computer with a USB 2.0 cable; with the little card reader all I do is pop out the card and plug it into the reader and plug that into the USB outlet).
