Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TDK 4.7GB 16x DVD-R (100-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: Top of the line for quality Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using TDK DVD-R discs for quite a while now, and I will personally stand by this product. I back up a lot of movies, pictures, videos, and other random things quite frequently, and so I have tried many different brands of blank media.
I consistently come back to TDK, because the quality has yet to be matched in my eyes. I know that if I start burning a TDK disc, I am going to get a safe, accurate backup, and I don't have to worry about "making a coaster". I have purchased this particular product a number of times, and I always recommend this brand when I am asked for a reliable blank media provider.
Customer Review: Top Quality Product. No Coasters Summary: 5 Stars
Top quality product that has not produced a single coaster in over 70 full disc burns. Recommend this dvd-r to anyone who needs a reliable product. Amazon does an excellent job in shipping rapidly, but they need to pad the spindle better during packing to avoid any chance of damage during transit. This is more necessary now that they ship via USPS instead of UPS.
UPDATE - now over 200 burns without any problems using the Taiwan made discs. My most recent purchase from Amazon resulted in discs made in Malaysia.I haven't used any of these discs yet but will update when enough are used to make a judgement on the quality.
Customer Review: NO PROBLEM USING THIS MEDIA,.. Summary: 4 Stars
...However, (and a BIG HOWEVER) I only burn at 6x.
It has aways been my experience that you should burn at, at most, 1/2 the highest rated speed (this includes CDS as well).
Since the lowest speed I can burn on my Sony Drives is 6x (for 16x media)
that is what I burn at (usually using Nero).
Virtually no problems what-so-ever after 300+ burns (at 6x).
So those with problems, slow down, maybe you're moving too fast.
Also, have nothing else running while burning (to minimize the affect of temporay glitches).
Customer Review: Works GREAT with TiVo Humax DVR Summary: 5 Stars
I have an older Humax TiVo DVR which has the DVD burner inside. Though the Humax leaves a LOT to be desired. .. the TDK DVD's are the only ones that I can use in it and they work 99% of the time. I've tried lots of other brands, and have lots of problems, but TDK almost always works. When you're buying a spindle of 100, it's not impossible that you might have one or two that will give you a problem, but I find that with just about any brand, even on other DVD burners I have. I read somewhere that TDK was about the most compatible brand of blank DVD's that you can get. . . and that's certainly the case for me.
Customer Review: Not burning properly Summary: 1 Stars
I have been burning DVDs for the past four months. I decided to try these out recently after the mostly solid reviews. For some reason, the highest burn speed my computer (Gateway 508GE w/ Samsung Burner & Nero Software) recognizes with this media is 2x. In addition, the final product is horrible with freezing and skipping. I used a different type of media (some generic brand rated at 8x maximum writing speed)and my computer will actually allow me to burn up to 16x. MY guess is I either received a bad batch or there is a read error between TDK and Samsung. Hopefully the seller will allow me to swap out.
