Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TDK 4.7GB 16x DVD-R (100-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: Great DVDs... or they were Summary: 5 Stars
Review for TDK 8x DVD-R:
I've burned over 100 of TDK's DVD-R at 8x speeds on a Pioneer 107 drive, and on a Powerbook SuperDrive. Not one coaster. The top of the disc is nice too, with a subtle logo displayed on it, leaving plenty of room to label the disc.
Only they changed their discs...
The most recent batch (the 16x variety) of these discs had a different label on top, and would only burn at 2X in my PowerBook G4, and 4x on my Pioneer 107 (both capable of burning at 8X). I bought a new 16x external drive, and they burned at a full 16x on that drive. Just a caution, it is probably best to buy a 10-25 pack to see how well they burn in your own drive before committing to a full 100.
Customer Review: Bad experience Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased a pack of these TDK 4.7 gb discs when they were on sell, thinking that I was getting a GREAT product for a very discounted price. After spending a lot of time transferring videos to DVD, I kept finding that almost all of the discs would have an error at the very end of the burn process (meaning I would have to re-record hour long videos many times to get an actual DVD).
At first I thought the problem might be with my DVD burner (I have a Dell Inspiron 6400), but after using other branded recordable DVD's, I've come to discover that the problem lies with the DVD...
I'd love a refund, but more so than that, I'd love to have back the wasted hours trying to transfer VHS to DVD with these discs...
Customer Review: OK most of the time... but then again... Summary: 3 Stars
I am on my 4th 100 Pk of these DVD -Rs. I only use them for full length movies and all have burned OK... but not without glitches during playback, and those seem to come from the same spindle of blanks. The first 100 worked fine. When I started on the 2nd 100 I would get pops and skips during playback. I tried the same disc in multiple players and the problem was still there, however not always as severe as in a different player. I've had similar results with the 3rd and 4th spindles. Overall I would say 80% of the movies have been OK. My faith in TDK is gone and for peace of mind's sake I think my next purchase will be Taiyo-Yuden. I hear nothing but good about them.
Customer Review: Great price, 100% burnability! Summary: 5 Stars
I've already burned through over half of the 100 DVDs in this spindle and every last one of them is exactly what I want. Great quality picture, sound, etc. I use these to burn DVDs that are compatible with my PS2. I've burned movie, fansub anime, slideshows, and all of them are running great. For any who are curious, I use VSO's Divx to DVD to transfer avi's to vob/dvd. I don't bother with menus but DVDAuthorGUI is the program to use for that. Pick up VSO's Copy to DVD for an even easier burn. Of course, eveyone has a different poison but this is it for me. Overall, I've tried Verbatim and TDK DVDs and recommend both of them to DVD enthusiasts.
Customer Review: Instead of an external harddrive... Summary: 4 Stars
i'd recommend looking into dvd-r [and +r +rw. etc] instead.
external harddrives are usually hit or miss. i was afraid to buy an external even if a product had 5 stars by majority of the people. you'll see half as much saying it didn't work, it blew up, etc.
i figured CD-Rs always worked for me...why not go for dvd-Rs. i use them to store data [music, videos] and they work perfectly. i use Nero so it automatically checks if your data is actually on the disk.
so far out of 15 discs, i only had 1 bad one. i'll update this review if i encounter more than 10 bad ones in the 100 spindle.
