Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of HDMI Cable (6.5 feet/2 meters)

Customer Review: I'm A Believer!
Summary: 5 Stars

I, like many, was very skeptical at a 0.15 cent cable, especially after buying my $1500 HDTV home theter system. We all the the best for our new babies in terms of cables, and Monster does a good job of making you feel like $70 is a necessity if you "really want what's best for your system." The packaging is so pretty, and all the talk of gold-plated this and that, lifetime warranties, etc. makes you shell out the dough. Well, I purchased 2 of these cables and my skepticism was relieved. These cables work JUST AS WELL as a $70 Monster cable. I see no difference. At all. None. Period. In fact, the cables feel solid, well-made, come with plastic covers over the ends, and fit nicely into the sockets. They don't even look cheap. Don't waste your money on the racket that is happening with cables these days. And for those reviewers that complain about the inflated shipping cost - the approximate $6 you pay per cable in shipping I'm sure is just the company fairly getting what the cable is reasonably worth in their cost. Of course, even a telephone cord is worth more than 15 cents. They are selling the cable at a ridiculously low price to attract attention (that is due) and then you pay your $6 in shipping to make up for what is probably the true value of the cable. It makes perfect sense to me. So $6.15 for a cable that works just as well and is delivered surprisingly fast, versus $70-80 for something that does the same thing? I'll take this! AND I'm returning my $70 cable immediately. In the meantime, there should be some kind of congressional hearing on this cable racket (or at least a Dateline NBC investigation!)

Customer Review: Shifting standards
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered a couple of these HDMI cables listed as made by Eforcity 6-8 weeks ago (the seller was AVClear, which presently isn't among the listed vendors for this product), and they were thick and rugged, heavy-gauge cables that were not only highly effective but left no doubt about quality--easily the equal of the $50-$75 cables offered by Best Buy and other major outlets. I've just received what is purported to be the same cable, but from a different vendor, and the difference, at least in terms of appearance, is dramatic. It's a thin, relatively lightweight cable with no trace of a brand name.

Although I have yet to notice any drop-off in functionality or effectiveness, let's just say that at a couple of bucks plus postage this HDMI cable appears to be "fairly valued" rather than bargain-priced. I see that Amazon offers "another" HDMI cable manufactured by "DVI Gear," offered by the same vendors at practically the same prices. My hunch is that either I got lucky with my prior purchase or that, rather than raise the prices, manufacturers and distributors are now supplying inexpensive HDMI cables of noticeably inferior quality.

In this case, it's possible that the 5-star rave reviews and 1-star pans are equally right because they're not talking about the same thing.

Customer Review: No complaints so far!

Last month I bought a 1080i HDTV and figured I would see if a HDMI cable was indeed better than the older composite cables. I already had a 1080i upcoverting DVD player, and both it and my new TV supported HDMI so I was all set. I came across this cable from Eforcity and was blown away at how much cheaper it was! The store I bought my TV at wanted at least $30 for a HDMI cable, and some were even $90! I was skeptical and assumed the cable offered by Eforcity would perform poorly but was I wrong. I immediately noticed an improvement in the picture, and uncompressed DVDs are of excellent quality. I haven't had any problems with this cable whatsoever and highly recommend it, although it does have one little quirk. When I first turn on my DVD player, a green line goes across the screen and the speakers make a sound before the picture and audio begin transmitting from the DVD player, but I only see/hear this when turning the DVD player on and off, never during a movie. It's hard to say if that is from the DVD player, the HDMI cable, my Olevia TV, or from HDMI cables in general. Regardless, this is a fantastic cable for the price.

Customer Review: Can't believe the difference...

I thought the resolution on the XBox360 was pretty good with a CRT TV - I was impressed at how clear everything was when we shifted to a 1080p LCD TV, using the old cable. Then I got one of the HDMI cables - WOW! There's a HELL of a lot more detail available in the picture than I ever saw before.

$1.33 per cable - and some argue that this cable isn't any good. My suggestion is that before you go for ANYTHING more expensive, try it for yourself. I bought three cables (DVD, cable box, XBox) for less than the price of the cheapest WalMart HDMI cable, even with shipping. It doesn't have a fancy clamshell case, it's just a generically packed cable in a plastic bag. No fancy instructions, no pretty graphics telling you how to install the cable (like you're really brain-damaged enough to need them...) - there's just a cable. In a bag.

And it WORKS.

If it doesn't work for your particular application, you're out a trifling amount and you can go buy some Monster cables. But I'm thinking it'll work just fine for any normal consumer item you're likely to get.

Customer Review: Excellent cable - awesome price

I purchased 3 of these cables recently because my family recently upgraded to a slew of high-definition products and we wanted to get the most out of them. I was initially a bit skeptical about a cable that cost less than a sandwich at a fast food joint, but honestly, I now feel sorry for anybody who doesn't get their cables for cheap prices.

These cables are fantastic! They come with removable plastic connection shields that keep stuff from getting into the cable connections in transit. They are good and flexible, and well-insulated. I have had absolutely no problems with them so far. I use them with a PS3, upconverting DVD player, and a Comcast cable box (Motorola HDMI type). I highly recommend these cables over the rip-off priced Monster cables, among other brands.

I will never again buy a cable at a big-box electronics store (Best Buy, I'm looking at you) because the price and quality of this cable more than justifies the slight shipping wait. Get this cable if you enjoy high quality, low price, and getting way more than what you paid for.
