Customer Review: It does work with the ZS3 v1.2 but...

Unlike most of the reviews on this product, I did actually purchase it through Amazon (merchant Sterling Tek) - many of the other reviews are by "users" that have reviewed 50 or so other Sterling Tek products...you make the call.
First off let me say when I finally received the battery, it did actually work with my ZS3 firmware v1.2. At $25, it is one of the few non-Panasonic batteries I've found that does work with v1.2 of the firmware.
That said, I can't give it 5 stars because my purchase experience with Sterling Tek was less than ideal and as I said, they seem to be padding their own products with fake reviews - which I don't care for.
I ordered this battery on Dec. 18th. It said in stock on Amazon's web site and indicated that if I paid extra for overnight shipping, I would receive it before X-Mas. I really wanted the extra backup battery for X-Mas pics, so I ponied up the extra shipping fee. Happily, I received an e-mail from Amazon on Mon. Dec. 21st that it had shipped. I assumed with overnight shipping that I would have it Tues. I was wrong.
When it did not arrive on Wed. and I could find no way on Amazon or Sterling Tek's own web site to check the status of my order, I called Sterling Tek. They informed me that the battery was back ordered but should be in the next day and would be overnighted. They could not explain why the battery still appeared as in stock on Amazon AND their own web site. I told them that even if it was shipped the next day, it would not be delivered on X-Mas day - I was not happy, but what can you do? They also could not really explain why they charged my credit card on 12/21 when they had not shipped the battery and did not even have it in stock.
Time went by and I called again and was again told that it was on back order and was expected the next day. I did not have a back up battery for New Year's either. Finally, on Jan. 4th, about 2 1/2 weeks after I ordered the "in stock" battery with next day shipping, it finally arrived.
I was pretty upset by the time it came, but I have cooled off a little and decided to give Sterling Tek the benefit of the doubt in the review since the battery does work and this review is really about the product.
My take on it after a bit of calming down is that Sterling Tek appears to be a Mom and Pop shop with the absolute minium integration with Amazon that is possible. I think that if you are lucky enough that the product is in stock, then you will probably receive it quickly enough and be pleased. They also did finally refund my next day shipping fee as well after some complaining on my part.
As long as you understand these items due to Sterling Tek's complete lack of automation, you should be happy with this purchase:
1. The stock indicator on Amazon and Sterling Tek's web site means nothing. If you need the product right away (and especially if you intend to upgrade shipping), call them ahead of time to verify that it really is in stock.
2. Amazon has no way of knowing when Sterling Tek ships the product, so they will charge your credit card and send you an e-mail saying it shipped on the estimated shipping date whether it really shipped or not.
3. You have absolutely no way of checking the true status of your order without calling Sterling Tek (during business hours) and asking them.
However, as I said, the battery does work and if you don't need it right away, you should be fine. If not for my frustration with Sterling Tek, I would have given it 5 stars.
Edit -- Now that I've had a chance to use the batery for a bit, I'd say that it does seem to last longer than the original Panasonic battery. However, one thing to be aware of - while it does last longer, when it is done, it will go from 3 bars to dead in about 30 seconds. So, you probably want to keep an idea of how much battery is left and keep a spare. The original kind of does the same thing but not nearly as dramatic.
