Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case with Belt Clip for 80/120/160 GB iPod classic 6G (Black)Customer Review: Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this for about a year now - I got it when I got my iPod.
My iPod does not have a scratch on it. Why did I wait a year to write a review? I figured, "Well, it's nothing special. Just a huge bulky rubbery thing to protect my iPod." Not bulky enough to make me write a bad review, though. As expected of a huge bulky rubbery thing, when I dropped it once or twice on pavement, the iPod was protected and did not shatter into a million pieces and die.
But do you want to hear why I like this huge bulky rubbery thing? I slammed the trunk on the iPod. Several times in a row, very hard, because I did not realize that I had left the iPod there. My iPod still works. Still not a scratch on it. The belt clip on the case got stuck closed, but I managed it back apart and it also works flawlessly.
I'd recommend this. I have the black cover on my black iPod. Very good buy, I must say.
Customer Review: Screen protector stresses iPod screen Summary: 2 Stars
The hard plastic screen protector included with this case seems to put stress on the iPod screen. You won't notice the problem unless you are wearing polarized sunglasses...with the sunglasses on, you'll see very clearly where the Speck window is pressing on the iPod display and causing distortion.
I can't say whether this will cause any long term problems with the display. But since I wouldn't deliberately press on an LCD screen to cause it to look distorted, I chose to remove the screen protector, and just rely on the rubberized case for protection.
I think if the plastic window had been made just a few millimeters larger in height and width it would not have had this problem, as the distortion appears only along whichever edge is least covered by the plastic window.
Eventually I will probably buy a different case, just haven't seen one I like any better.
Customer Review: Great iPod Case Summary: 5 Stars
I inserted my iPod Classic into this case and was amazed at how sturdy it was and at the great fit. It fit easily into the case and the added hard screen protector really protects the iPod screen from the bumps and bruises it can be subjected to under normal everyday use. The beltclip that comes with it is sturdy and works well, though I would have moved it more toward the bottom of the case. It is too high on the case for me, but that is a matter of personal opinion. The case has cutouts for all of the connectors on the iPod, including the hold button. As far as style goes, this case just looks tough. Some people may say that they feel this case doesn't have a very nice presentation, but I believe the case's looks fit with the level of protection it provides. Overall, this is a great case and I would highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Good, but not perfect Summary: 3 Stars
My first disappointment: it is designed for both the 80GB and 160GB iPod Classic. This means if you have an 80GB like me, you have to use a thick rubber spacer behind it (included with the product), and therefore the case takes up just as much space as if you had the larger iPod.
Also, the rubber at the top of the screen is very thin and flexible, and it very easily pulls away from the screen protector. I would think there should be a larger lip on screen protector to keep the rubber in place. I expect over time that the rubber will stretch and cause a problem, but maybe not.
Aside from those points, it's a great thing. Rugged, nice to hold, feels like it will protect the iPod from a lot of shocks and bumps. It won't slide off your lap easily (although it won't slide into pockets easily either).
Customer Review: Space age technology, at your finger tips! Well, it looks like it anyway. Summary: 5 Stars
If you are a Sci-Fi fan, then this is right up your alley. It is made of soft rubber, doesn't smell like normal rubber, but it looks REALLY cool! The protection screen is very nice as well. I have messed up 2 protection screens while saving my actually screen itself. One small drawback is the screen can scratch easy, but it protects what it has too. Also, the belt clip is a little cheap as well. If you are not careful, you can break the belt clip. I have not found a place to get a replacement for either the screen or belt clip, so I had to buy a new case. In the end, it was still worth it. The dial is exposed so that can get scratched and marred up.
The only way to make this a perfect item: sell the screen and belt clip as separate replacement items.
Highly recommend getting this item.
