Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case with Belt Clip for 80/120/160 GB iPod classic 6G (Black)

Customer Review: Space age technology, at your finger tips! Well, it looks like it anyway.
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a Sci-Fi fan, then this is right up your alley. It is made of soft rubber, doesn't smell like normal rubber, but it looks REALLY cool! The protection screen is very nice as well. I have messed up 2 protection screens while saving my actually screen itself. One small drawback is the screen can scratch easy, but it protects what it has too. Also, the belt clip is a little cheap as well. If you are not careful, you can break the belt clip. I have not found a place to get a replacement for either the screen or belt clip, so I had to buy a new case. In the end, it was still worth it. The dial is exposed so that can get scratched and marred up.
The only way to make this a perfect item: sell the screen and belt clip as separate replacement items.

Highly recommend getting this item.

Customer Review: Not bad, but stretches
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this and it looks great. It protects well. It has a hole for the touch pad, and a plastic piece to cover the screen. It's rubber, so it protects against water if it gets splashed slightly (again, there is a hole for the touch pad, so it's far from water-proof). There are also holes for the headphones, lock switch, and connector at the bottom (there are no covers for these holes). So, if you are only connecting the wire to the connector at the bottom, you are ok. The downfalls are that the plastic piece that covers the screen gets scratched pretty easily, and the rubber case stretches out. Since the case is "chunky", you cannot leave the iPod in it if you want to connect it to one of the many radio devices out there. Since most of them hold the iPod snugly and securely, a thick case like this impedes on the ability to connect the iPod. Therefore, you must remove the iPod from this case. Well, doing that once or twice stretches the rubber and it never snaps back to its original tautness. After a while the plastic screen slides around easily and even falls out easily. It's a great case if you never plan on removing it from the case. However, if you are constantly hooking it up to something that fits snugly around it, you will end up with a loose case and constantly realigning the plastic screen cover.

Customer Review: Great iPod protection
Summary: 5 Stars

This case is a perfect fit and provides exceptional protection for my iPod Classic. Appears to be very tough as the name indicates and protects the screen as well. Very well made.

Customer Review: seems to work
Summary: 4 Stars

This rubberized case seems to protect my I-pod just as it is supposed to do, but the small plastic window falls out too easily. The toughskin case also makes the whole unit too large to fit in my Boston Acoustics I-pod dock/radio so I have to remove it for that. I probably wouldn't have purchased it if I had realized that. If you intend to use this case on an I-pod you will frequently use with a dock, then I can't recommend it (or any protective case.)

Customer Review: Super tough even if it's not beautiful
Summary: 5 Stars

I waited a long time to review this produst because I don't think you can adequately review something like this the day you receive it. I've been using the Speck ToughSkin now for almost two years and this is one tough cookie. That's what I bought it to be and that's what I got.

If you are looking for an iPod cover that's cool or classy and sleek this is probably not for you. It's a bit chunky and heavy although not as much as you might think. I was looking for a case that would really protect my iPod from all kinds of bumps, yanks and possible drops and this case has done that and more.

I started with one of the older iPod videos in it and traveled all over Europe with that in my purse and coat pocket, through airports and train stations. It got dropped, pummeled, rained on and everything you can imagine. When I bought a new Classic, I passed my old Video and this case to my husband who abused it even more, not only traveling with it but carrying it out on jobsites with him. That original almost 3 year old iPod is still going strong and I credit that to this case.

I am using one of the leather cases on my Classic now and I don't feel secure about it at all. I am ordering a new Speck ToughSkin today because I wouldn't think of taking the one off my husband's. He would destroy it within a week's time.

Now for a few of the drawbacks.

1. It is rubber and it tends to attract dust. A microfiber cloth solves that and since I don't wear it as an accessory it doesn't bother me.

2. It was a bit hard to get the iPod in the first time but after that it's no problem. It is a bit bulky if you have the smaller gig pod and have to use the filler plate behind but you don't notice it after a day or so.

3. I read on here that someone was afraid the top of the rubber would stretch out and get loose over the screen protector. Don't worry. It doesn't. And the screen protector is also tough as nails. It doesn't have a click wheel protector but I bought a little pack of protectors and cut one to fit. Problem solved.

I've had no trouble with the placement of the holes for headphones, dock/charger, etc. and I was worried at first about the clip sticking out as far as it does but I have ended up liking that because it's easy to open but once you clip it on something, boy does it stay. The clip will also come off completely if you want it to. You must press a special button and turn it upside down to do that so it can't happen accidentally.

If you are looking for a case to protect your iPod and make it easy to use, this is a good choice. If you want a fashion accessory you should probably keep searching. Good Luck!!
