Customer Review: iPod Classic Case needs some rethink
Summary: 2 Stars

There are very few solid, well-designed cases left for the original iPod Classic now. When my Contour Design Showcase finally bit the dust (it's no longer available) I found this one. I like the actual case itself for protection - it's a heavy-duty rubber sheathe, with a glass insert for screen protection. You actually pull it on, which is a bit awkward when you want to dock the iPod (have to remove the sheathe completely).

I am not impressed with the belt clip. It's a design I've seen on old cellphones - a bolt in the center of the case back which slides and clip-locks into a small vertically-oriented clip made of a light-weight plastic. You push down on the top of the clip to unlock and remove the iPod. To attach to your belt, you squeeze the clip. The plastic is flimsy and I'm just waiting for it to break, especially when I get into a car.

Bottom line? It's a good protector against impact damage i.e. dropping, but the belt clip is flimsy.

This is the best thing you can do to protect your iPod! This is my second Speck protective case(the first was for my 30 GB iPod) and I frankly wouldn't consider using my iPod outside the house without it. Soon after I bought the first Speck case I dropped my iPod for the first time. I was so truly greatful that i had it because i seriously doubt that it would have ever been the same (if it would've worked at all). I was relieved to find that there was absolutely NO DAMAGE at all to my iPod and amazingly NO DAMAGE to the case itself... not even the slightest scuff! I later dropped my iPod several times after and the result was the same!

This is a fantastic product that I HIGHLY recomend! Yes, Apple does make something very similar but it not only more expensive but it is not even close to the same quallty. The duribilty of this case as oppossed the Apple version is much, much better. Don't waste your time comparing the two. There is no comparison.

Just a thing to consider...I am experiencing icy conditions in Ohio right now, and I have a similar flexible protective skin with belt clip for my old 30gb ipod. Except I don't wear it on my belt, I keep it in my back pocket mostly...just used the skin to protect it from getting banged around or scratched up.

I'm figuring that like my case, this case has a round knob or button on the back for the belt clip to attach to.

This morning I slipped and fell on the ice, the knob on the back of the case dented in the back of my ipod and my ipod is now dead.

Something to consider, if you are looking for a protective case, and don't really plan to use the belt clip. If you aren't going to use the clip, don't get a protective case with a clip.

I'll probably replace my old 30gb with the new 120gb that costs less than my old one did originally...but the old one was working great, now it's trashed.

Customer Review: Very nice

I bought one of these and I love it. It does exactly what I wanted and meets all of my expectations. The case is quite thick so if you're like me and like to carry your Ipod in your pocket, it will make it more difficult to get it in and out of your pocket. If you're hard on you Ipod this makes a good solution for protecting it from bumps, and in my case, frequent drops. For the price of a new Ipod, an extra $15 or so is good insurance in my opinion.

I couldn't find replacement screen protectors here at Amazon but Speckproducts have them on there web site for less than $2 each. I would suggest a couple extra screen protectors to keep handy unless scratches on the screen protector doesn't bother you.

I can't say much about the belt clip as I don't use it, hate having anything weighing down my belt.

Oh yeah, it doesn't make your Ipod waterproof, only protects it from bumps and bruises.

Customer Review: Nice thing

The moment I saw this skin on this site, I made my mind to buy it.

One of the prime reasons to buy it was that it has a sturdy look and feel - perfect for my sophisticated IPod Classic 160GB. It was like having a soft heart in a hard shell.

Among the other reasons, following made a significant contribution to my decision making:

1) It was not exorbitantly expensive. I thought spending a bit more is ok as my IPod will be well protected from all vibes, shakes and scratches from the external world.

2) It came with screen protector, so I don't have to buy it separately.

Now when I have it, I say it's so far so good and it's nice to have it. If I happen to come across any unfortunate incedent which changes my outlook towards this product, I assure you that I'll update you will my foul cry but till then I keep my fingers crossed and relish this nice product.
