Customer Review: Not bad, but stretches
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this and it looks great. It protects well. It has a hole for the touch pad, and a plastic piece to cover the screen. It's rubber, so it protects against water if it gets splashed slightly (again, there is a hole for the touch pad, so it's far from water-proof). There are also holes for the headphones, lock switch, and connector at the bottom (there are no covers for these holes). So, if you are only connecting the wire to the connector at the bottom, you are ok. The downfalls are that the plastic piece that covers the screen gets scratched pretty easily, and the rubber case stretches out. Since the case is "chunky", you cannot leave the iPod in it if you want to connect it to one of the many radio devices out there. Since most of them hold the iPod snugly and securely, a thick case like this impedes on the ability to connect the iPod. Therefore, you must remove the iPod from this case. Well, doing that once or twice stretches the rubber and it never snaps back to its original tautness. After a while the plastic screen slides around easily and even falls out easily. It's a great case if you never plan on removing it from the case. However, if you are constantly hooking it up to something that fits snugly around it, you will end up with a loose case and constantly realigning the plastic screen cover.

Customer Review: Great case with some caveats
Summary: 3 Stars

For the 80 GB iPod Classic 6G, I haven't found any case better than this. The thick, one-piece rubber surround is well made and very protective. The openings for the USB plug, headphone jack, and hold button are sized for all plugs/phones/fingers that I have, which is an improvement over my last case.

There are a couple things that bug me about this case, as an 80 GB owner:

1) The case isn't specifically sized for the 80 GB iPod. A rubber insert that goes in the back of the case, behind the iPod is required for this iPod to fit. It makes the case thicker than it needs to be for this iPod.

2) The screen cover has a very thin lip that inserts into the case over the screen once the iPod is in the case. I am concerned that this may wander with time/use. A wider lip on the insert would invalidate my complaint.

3) There isn't a protector included for the Click Wheel. So, everything about the iPod is basically protected, except the Click Wheel. For those looking to protect this from polishing, dirt, or dirty hands, this case doesn't offer that level of protection.

3-stars for being a great, protective product, but with some issues that seem like they would be fairly easily overcome.

Customer Review: Great case with two drawbacks
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this case for about two years, I think, and I'm very happy with it. With great skill, I've managed to accidentally knock my ipod off my desk many times, either by forgetting my headphones are on when I walk away, or by simply dropping it. The toughskin's traction makes it harder to drop, and it provides enough cushioning that the ipod has survived several falls without any damage. (Keep in mind that the rubber of the case makes getting it in and out of a tight pocket something of a challenge.)

There's only two drawbacks: first off, the rubber of the case will mark up the surface of the ipod. It's completely superficial, but if you plan on taking the ipod out of the case for a beauty show, you're not going to win. I ended up buying one of those stick-on decals that protect the surface of the ipod.

Second, the rubber stretches. Do NOT take your ipod out of the case (you're not winning any beauty shows) unless you really do need to, as the "mouth" around the screen will stretch out more and more.

All in all, a great case for people who favor safety over style. (Although the big mean industrial rubber look is a lot cooler than that crocheted sock thing your girlfriend puts her ipod in.)

Customer Review: Inadequate Protection... sort of
Summary: 3 Stars

This is the first case that I bought for my iPod. This case excels at absorbing drop damage due to its thick rubber shell and strong corners. I have dropped my ipod in this case several times and was glad that I had the case.

The Speck case fails in three other areas, however.

1. If you remove your iPod for any reason (docking in a standalone speaker, etc.) then the rubber around the screen will stretch out and be ruined in short order. This is very frustrating because the screen protector no longer is sealed behind the rubber and has a tendency to slide around.

2. Dust, grit, and dirt get under the rubber very easily. No big deal, right? Well not until you take the iPod out of the case and discover that the entire surface has been covered in fine scratches. The dust and grit can get in but can't get out.

3. The swivel belt clip, while useful, leaves a circle of scratchy awfulness the size of a US quarter that starts at the bottom of the Apple logo. Very irritating.

In summary the case is good for drop protection but lousy for incidental scratch protection. I blame this case 100% for destroying the resale value of my iPod due to the scratches.

Customer Review: If not for the protection... get if for the style.
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently bought this for my new iPod 80 GB since I kept dropping the darn thing. The last thing I need is losing sleep over a $250 brick. I must say I am very impressed with this protector. It is a little bulky but all the connection slots are exposed and the rubber does not impede with the connections. I charge my headphones and charger in with no problems. Now that I think about it... the rubber is thick enough it might save you from an electrical discharge (highly unlikely... but just a crazy thought). The screen protector is not all that great since it is made of cheap plastic... so expect to see some scuff marks after a while... but I would much rather have scuff marks on my protector than on the iPod screen itself. All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. If the protection still doesn't sound good enough... I at least recommend this item for the style. It makes my iPod look like a high-tech gadget. I think if Batman were to have an iPod somewhere in his inventory belt... it would look something like this. This definately gets 5 stars in my book.

PS. Hail Batman!
