Customer Review: Has good and bad points but does the job well . . .

I purchased the Speck SeeThru case in late January of this year after buying my first iPod earlier the same month. What I was looking for in a case were features to facilitate the viewing of TV shows and movies, protect the iPod from scratches and dings, allow for comfortable and reliable use of the click-wheel and other controls, as well as a simplistic design. Here are a list of Pros and Cons that pertain to these features:
Pros:
- Case protects iPod from damage very well. It has fallen only once from my desk to the floor and there was no damage visible at all.
- Silicone bipod piece allows for relatively easy viewing of videos. It works on all surfaces and makes you feel a little better about watching a TV show or movie on this little little screen.
- Very easy access to controls and click-wheel. The nice beveled edge around the click-wheel actually makes it functions far smoother.
- Even though not viewable from product pictures, silicone sides of case keep iPod stable and stationary in a pocket. No annoying shifting.
- Overall design and look is simple and very functional. Makes it almost feel like there is no case at all.
Cons: There have been no problems with my case yet but a few negative design characteristics are note worthy,
- The silicone bipod, while working sufficiently, is rigid/dense enough to where the iPod is not held at a comfortable 55-65 degree viewing angle to a horizontal surface. It is held closer to a 75-85 degree angle, almost vertical. This is just an observation.
- When I received my case I found a light centimeter long scratch on the viewing area of the case. At first I was worried it would ruin watching video. It can be a little distracting when watching a video with the brightness all the way up but with it turned down the scratch is not noticeable.
- The iPod is inserted but way of the cases top. It is held in the case only by way of a snap-like cover. With normal use the iPod has not and would most likely never fall out of the case by the snap cover being pulled off. I have noticed that if the case is held simultaneously while the bottom of the iPod, where the ear-buds jack is, were to be pushed the cover will pop off.
- The silicone accessory does not really work at all for attaching to the bottom of the case and iPod to wrap an earbud cord around. It also detaches very easily as well.
- The MOST worrying observation I have made is the seam where the front and back of the case are held together can be pulled apart about a millimeter. The connections where the case halves are held are under the rubber sides. There have had no problem yet involving this but I believe it is important to mention.
Overall this case has performed well and up to my expectations.
