2/11: update to review below: I reordered the same Speck case in Smoke just to chance that perhaps a bad batch of clear shells were made and the smoke base would fit the bottom securely.....nope!...the smoke case has the same "too-short" tabs at the rear of bottom shell and it slips off....so how to keep it attached if I want to keep my Speck (which I really do)...I used small strips of clear strong packaging tape on each rear corner of the shell and extended it around from just onto the surface of the aluminum body of the Mac Air around and over the bottom of the plastic of the Speck case. It holds just fine and really is not noticeable....when time comes to remove the bottom shell for cleaning, I'll gently use a hair dryer to soften the bond of the tape and remove it with another piece of tape on top if it. I'm not worried about any adhesive residue remaining, but, if there is, I'll use a small amount of "Goo-Be-Gone' which is a gentle and natural citrus product that fully removes any adhesive completely and gently. It's never harmed anything I've used it on including matte aluminum, stainless steel, a variety of plastics, DVD cases. etc. Then a little IPA wipe will clean off any remaining amount of the Goo-Be-Gone which is essentially a natural oil derived from the skins of oranges (you'l know when you smell it!). So for those who have also experienced a Speck See-Thru that refuses to snap and secure on the bottom shell with the Mac Air body, that's the remedy to keep it in place.
I just received this case along with my new Mac Air from Amazon. Having purchased a Speck case for my Macbook Pro and being extremely satisfied wit it's fit and durability, I ordered the same brand case for my Air. Unfortunately, the bottom shell failed to snap firmly into place on the rear of the Air. It seemed the shell tabs were just short of being able to snap over the lip of the aluminum case of the air even when very firm pressure was applied on the shell in the area of where these tabs where. The front snapped over fine and held, but, the rear, no matter how I tried, simply would not stay in place (rear of the lower shell must go on first, followed by front snapping down). I'm guessing perhaps this one was defective and was distorted just slightly out of correct dimensions to a correct fit of the tabs in the rear of the lower shell. Even when made correctly, the Speck cases have very small tabs (tight tolerance) that just barely fit over the lip of the aluminum case of the laptop to hold the shell in place. The rubber feet of the Air also were fully seated into the hollow recesses of the shell feet that the lower case has. There was nothing preventing the bottom of the air from fully seating and fitting snugly into the bottom case. I've read on-line of others having this same problem and others, not at all. That being the case, it seems quality control may be an issue when these come out of the mold. Will I try another one?....probably since the Speck is the best shell around. Fingers crossed when I receive the next one that is was manufactured correctly! Had the Speck attached correctly, I'm certain I would have given it 5 stars.,
