Customer Review: Scratches the silver back of the ipod, but otherwise I love it.
Summary: 3 Stars
Love:
- Tactile feel: gives a good "heft" and you don't need to support the ipod with your pinky or heel of your hand because friction when holding the rubber is good. It's easy to find in my bag.
- Protection: A good level of protection from bumps. Haven't dropped it seriously so can't say more.
- Fit: access to all the holes you want. Volume buttons are also easy to feel through it. Easy to take on and off.
- Style: Sleek but industrial.
Hate:
- Fit and materials: loose enough to let in pencil bits, tobacco bits, lint, or anything else that lingers in your pockets and bags. Snug enough to keep all that stuff in and hug it to the silver back, creating many soft buffed spots on the shiny back. Are you really going to clean this out every day?
My sob story:
Used it, loved it, betrayed my vanity, abandoned it, vanity lost, thinking of using it again.
I usually let my things get grungy. I think duct tape and goo are signs of love. My nano and MacBook have never been protected and are all scratched and loved, with no functional damage. But forking out for a touch over a higher capacity ipod probably indicates a little bit of vanity, no? I tried to spare my touch those grungy signs of love by throwing at least an extra Jackson at it.
The downside of the great tactile feel is that the material doesn't discriminate between hanging on to your skin and anything else floating in your bag or pocket. The fit is loose enough to let lint and bottom-of-the-bag bits in, but snug enough to not let them out. To my surprise, when I had to get my ipod replaced (get your warranty, party people!), the back was no longer a mirror. My hopes were dashed, but regained with a second chance at a replacement touch. I tried just keeping it without a case in a designated pocket just for it, and scratches only first appeared when I lost vigilance and started throwing it in with other stuff like keys and pens.
I've had the new touch longer than the first one I kept in this case, and it's still less scratched. But, the other day I found some goo on it, so started looking for cases again. Now that it already some has scratches and I am batting my eyelashes at the iphone, I'm considering putting this case back on the touch, but I wish I had found a better one the first time. I thought this would help you do the same.
